[Much to his surprise... Legato wakes up.

The engulfing blackness ends, he feels himself return to consciousness, and he opens his eyes. There is light, sound, trees-- more trees than he has to capacity to imagine. He is breathing. He feels pain. Looking down, his arms are bare.

...All wrong. This is not how it was supposed to be.
There is supposed to be nothing.

Finally, hearing a quiet chatter nearby--something like a radio--he rolls experimentally onto his side... and immediately there is more pain. A pair of slices near his shoulder blades, with some sort of weight, hanging and pulling. Turning, he glances back to see what... oh.

Wings.

...He can't help but give a short laugh, at that. What a joke death is turning out to be. Is this the fate that he had been sending them all to? In an attempt to distract himself from feeling like a fool, to keep himself from laughing until he feels sick and bitter, he drags the babbling book over to himself, and proceeds to inspect it. Listening and reading in a lightheaded daze. For at least an hour, he slowly flips through its incomprehensible pages, until a vague idea its function begins to form... ridiculous as it is. Finally, with a resigned sigh, he decides to test it.]
