The Republican National Convention starts in NYC this week. Tens of thousands of protesters are expected.
With any luck, the protests will be peaceful. I hope every protester in the entire city is aware of how far the right-wing media will go to exploit any and every little incident of violence or civil disobedience.
They'll take their footage and run it over and over across every major news network to say "See, these crazy, unstable people are the same unpatriotic liberals who support John Kerry."
If the protesters are wise, they'll put on a display of optimism, good will, and self control. Now is not the time to scare voters away from John Kerry through angry words or careless acts of violence and destruction.
This week could prove to be a pivotal time for the election. My fingers are crossed. I just wish I could join the protests myself.

This is a really good article which presents a different view of what impact the protests might have. I may have just changed my mind about the whole thing.
