i realized i haven't updated in a while, so here are some actual details about my life.

1. william shatner and joe jackson singing 'common people' is the GREATEST EVER. oh lord.

2. it is national coming out day. there were people selling rainbow candy at the university today. it was great. and the cannon was decorated with rainbow balloons.

backstory: the cannon at the university of guelph is an old war cannon aimed at the student services offices in the main building (of course, it doesn't work anymore) and is a different color every day. people camp out all night to stake their claim on the cannon for a particular day and the paint it before school starts. if you leave at some point during the night, someone else will come along and paint over it, so you have to stay all night. the cannon cannot be painted during the day. at the end of the year, the layers of paint are scraped off to make room for next year, and the paint chips are sold at the bookstore as sourvenirs. (that last part, about the paint chips, may or may not be a university legend. i have yet to actually see paint chips in the bookstore.)

3. i went to québec for the thanksgiving weekend to see my father. many hours were spent on many buses, but it was all worth it just to be HOME for a few days. it was so easy to slide back into the swing of things. and all day yesterday and all day today, i kept thinking in french unintentionally and being surprised when the teacher started the lecture in english. some guy held a door open for me yesterday and i said, "merci." it's pleasant. if a little embarrassing.

4. my father bought me knee-high boots. they're black and awesome. he also bought me a new sweater. and when we were waiting in line to pick up our st-hubert dinner (i missed that restaurant so much), he pointed out a pretty girl and then nudged me with his elbow and said, "we're checking out girls together." i love my father.
