So I made my family dinner last night, and breakfast this morning(dinner sucking up for Tuesday, and breakfast because I wanted french toast dX) and a certain topic came up.

Last St. Patti's (as in '05) my parents at both houses decided it was about time for them to accept me drinking, and just set a rule I was to limit myself. Well I didn't, and they took it away, which was the decision of my dad, the normally lax one in my family. He took it away out of fear...fear I would end up like him.

So last night my step-mom says casually that she knows I drink still. That was that for then, and we moved on. then this morning as we're eating the french toast she says to me, "You're back to doing shooters before school aren't you? I knoticed we're low on Vodka, Lime juice, Bailey's and Jaggermeister. Not to mention the Tequilla is gone completely." I thought I was about to get yelled at, but instead it was a very casual conversation. She asked if I was back up to daily and in school. I said I had been but I had gotten back down to at most once a week. She asked if I was back to drugs, and I told her the truth that I had done 4/20 and that was it recently. Cigarettes led to the convo about how I had promised one of my friends I wouldn't anymore, had broken it once, but for the most part I had stopped.

The convo ended in that they would prefer that I got away from the cigs and drugs, and if I was going to keep drinking then keep it limitted and don't let them know when. She realizes that I use it to control myself on the days I'm near getting into trouble with my anger. They still fear I'm going to turn into a violent drunk like my dad though...

I think the general public assumes that since me and my parents don't talk more than once a month or two -outside of arrangements and lectures- that it's because they can't communicate and/or get along. In my family it's not true. I think we avoid it because it always leads us to seeing how disfunctional we are, but we still do have fun when we talk. We covered new books out, politics on all different scales, and the rest of the usual.

Other than that I've had a blank weekend,
Endi
