Calf Crag - Views From The Summit

Feb 28, 2013 19:34

To Calf Crag now, and tonight I'll be sharing some photos taken from the summit during our recent walk.

A view looking back along the ridge first of all.  This is the route of the walk: though the path isn't visible here, we passed to the right of the small tarn which can be seen in roughly the centre of the picture.  The valley to the rear is Wythburn, and the large flat plateau against the skyline is Ullscarf, which was the aim of our ill-fated July walk which had to be aborted due to 'orrible weather:-

Here's the view looking back towards Easdale, with Tarn Crag in the foreground:-

Looking the opposite way we see the summit of Steel Fell, and beyond that, the more substantial peaks of Seat Sandal, Dollywagon Pike and Nethermost Pike, shrouded in mist and covered in snow (they're all around 2300 - 2500 feet, and you can certainly see the height difference!

Last but by no means least, a look back towards mighty Helvellyn, the summit of which is lost to view but which was nonetheless - judging by the large number of cars parked by the roadside - a popular focus for a pilgrimage by walkers that day.

They're braver souls than me, I must admit.  I wouldn't brave Helvellyn in those conditions if you paid me, but then I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to hill-walking!

And lastly, what a difference a week makes!  Evidently the temperature today in Keswick was 13 degrees - positively balmy in comparison!!
