"Okay, that's just right," said the Master as he positioned his captives just so. He'd put a lot of effort into tonight and he only hoped it went well.
"Right! you can take of the blindfolds!" He clapped sharply twice and slowly the group removed the blindfolds. They all stared, dumbfounded. The bridge of the Valiant was decorated for Christmas dinner, complete with an oversize Christmas tree. The table was set and each of them had a place to sit. Each of them took a moment to look over the others.
Jack was wearing a dark blue button down dress shirt with black slacks, simple and it fit him (In the Master's opinion). Mrs. Jones was wearing a dark green, strapless dress that swept down about her ankles and a glittering silver shawl over her shoulders. Mr. Jones wore a simple black suit, reminiscent of the Master's but the tie he wore matched the green of his wife's dress. Tish wore a magenta dress unlike her mother's in only the fact that it had two thin, silver chains for straps at her shoulders that crossed at the back with her hair done up. Lucy stood somewhere at the front of the table, wearing a black strapless gown that stopped at her ankles. She was the only one of the women wearing make-up and the blood red of her lipstick stood out in stark contrast.
The Master wore his "trademark" suit with a decorative Christmas tie, which he was currently showing off to the others. "You like it? Lucy picked it out. Said I should be more festive," he grinned. No one reacted and his lips curled in distaste, making the others stiffen.
Then he laughed. "Oh you must be wondering where the old man is!" The Master headed towards the elevators as they opened, smiling triumphantly. The Doctor was once again young and wearing his brown pinstripe suit with his hair every which way but the tension in his body was unmistakable.
He brought a small group of children in with him, one very small girl he was carrying stiffly and a little boy held onto the fingers of his right hand. "In we go," he said, trying to sound excited. He had no idea what possessed the Master to do this but he wasn't about to risk the children.
He had to play the game. "Look at the tree, isn't that wonderful?" the Doctor said, watching their eyes light up in wonder. At his words, four little gasps gave way simultaneously.
"Everyone to their seats," said the Master, with a serene smile on his face. "You all have name places."
The Master walked to meet the Doctor after settling Lucy down next to his own chair and went to the little boy toddling in next to the Doctor. "What's your name, sonny?"
"Thomas, sir," he replied dutifully and that made the host of the party smile even more. "Thomas, I know just where your spot is, next this lovely lady over here," he grinned, leading him to where Mrs. Jones was just sitting. He led him to his seat and lifted him up.
"There we go, can you reach everything?" The boy nodded. "Good, lad. You let me or the nice man that brought you in know if you need anything. Anything at all," he said as he made his way back to his own seat as the Doctor finished helping the girls into their seats, interspersed between Jack and Tish.
"Sir?" came the smallest's voice as he headed to his seat after leading the Doctor to his. "Yes, darling, what was your name?"
"Karis, sir."
"Yes, Karis?" asked the Master as he watched her point towards the Christmas tree. "You forgot the star."
The Master rose a brow as he followed her outstretched hand and then laughed, everyone else at the table holding their breath. "Oh, would you look at that, I did! Silly me. Since you figured out what our tree is missing, how about you help me fix it after dinner, hm?"
Karis nodded eagerly, smiling a bit shyly.
"Everyone, settled in? Good," he said, giving two claps as he sat and dinner began.
