Harvey Danger's opener band, "Awesome," is just that. I recommend you check them out posthaste. They're nerdy as hell and play really fun musics with a bewildering variety of instruments (banjo, trumpet, theramin, keyboards, triangle, as well as guitar, drums, bass...) which could just sound like a gigantic fucking trainwreck between ska and bluegrass, except that it sounds great!
And the banjo player did the most amazing robot dance/mime routine that I have yet witnessed.
