Why all the updates?

My little sister and I are engaging in the great and noble art of flashfic writing.  The rules are as follows: We see each other on Facebook, one of us shouts 'Go!', and potentially a 'theme' to work towards, and we don't come back until we've a) gotten past 300 words and b) are finished.  Stopping to edit or second-guess ourselves is not permitted.  I'm going to post everything I write as a result of these efforts to LiveJournal, because it's *like* leaving it on my hard drive and forgetting it, but with less finality.  Also it's truly 'opt-in', this way.

Also: Magic.  I love Sanderson's First Rule and someday, I want to build around that.  I do not think this story is that opportunity.
