Depthitude

I think I was a better person when I was a kid. I didn't have Things, so I made do. I had thoughts, I filled up books with the ideas I had - playgrounds, in fact, things that everyone could play on. There would be mazes, slides, great gushes of water would appear out of nowhere and throw you from one end to the other, doors would open and close, hideyholes could be found, there would be gaps between walls where an enterprising young fellow might skip the ladders and simply go from -here- to -there-, which was one of the things that made the macca's in my hometown so awesome. Yes, you could slide down the slide, but you could climb up the top of it... if people weren't looking :3

But I digress (gleefully). There was a time when I could fill up entire books with hastily drawn scribbles about ideas I'd had. The worst part is, that time is now. I can still do it. I do still do it, sometimes. There are still ideas in my head.

But I've got Things, now. I didn't start having Things until a few years ago - I blame 2006. I had a job, so I saw Things I'd never been able to have as a kid... which I promptly bought, opening myself to further Thingitude. I was distracted. But I've bought more Things since then. I also got World of Warcraft, which is possibly the Thingiest Thing to ever be Thunged. All of this served as a distraction.

All of this doesn't leave me feeling as though I somehow need to turn my life completely around. For example, I'm studying computer games. I don't think they're inherently evil. I think the creation of a good computer game is a noble art akin to creating good literature. I don't believe I should stop playing computer games, either, any more than I should stop writing or sketching or anything of that ilk.

What I need is focus. I don't like this reality. I never want to feel like I belong. I want, very much, to escape. I need to focus, so that I can achieve something worthwhile. If I am playing, I am playing games to -finish- the game, to -learn- about games, so I can -make- games. If I am writing, I'm writing so I can -finish- that story, to -learn- about writing stories, so I can -publish- what I write. If I'm moaning, I'm moaning on lj/facebook so I can -finish- this thought, to -learn- about thinking, so I can get more -comments- on my facebook (a man has needs. Your adulation fulfils those needs. Do your civic duty).
