Librarians, Divers, and Thieves (OH MY <3)

So, two eps of Real Drive, one ep of Library War, and one ep of Daughter of Twenty Faces, and I've found my three favorite shows of the season. Well, okay, those and Soul Eater. For shows.

Real Drive is gorgeous. The animation is IG's default style, which is my favorite <3 They've got the lovely SAC/Chevalier/Blood+/Seirei eyes and faces, and the beautifully detailed Seirei-style scenery, which the blend AMAZINGLY with the techier look of SAC's 'net setting, to create the beautiful Meta-Real Network, that manages to make the technological stuff like firewalls and digitized thoughts look incredibly organic. I love the representation of the internet as an ocean, and the people working within it as literal divers. Lovely Seirei-style fighting animation, very fluid. I love watching those kinds of fights <3

Best of all (I hope), this show is so different! I've got absolutely no idea where this whole thing is going, and I love that. Plus, the array of characters aren't who you'd expect them to be - you've got the hyper girl, the stoic bishie, the old man who's pretty damn hot when he dives into the network, and the old-guy who somehow DIDN'T age. I'm not entirely sure who the main character is, here. Real Drive seems to defy categorization and that makes it great so far <3

Plus, it's Shirow. I mean, come on, this has to be good, right?

The music is quite different. Very theatrical. I still wonder, though, who are the two at the end? The girl and guy? It looks like Souta and Holon, but I can't really tell...

And character design thought: who designed the girls, Gonzo? Those women have some hips on them, wtf? And one too many underaged panty shots for my liking, thanks. And the director that showed up on that holo-screen in the first ep - GONZO boobs! Dammit IG, I thought you were better than that ;-;

Oh, yeah and PLEASE IG NO MORE OLD MAN NUDITY.

I loved Library War, too. I don't think I've laughed so hard at a show in a while. The relationship between Kasahara and Doujo is going to make the show, I think. I really liked the odd chibi style, and the unique animation - it reminds me a bit of Tokikake. The plot has me a bit confused, though. If the government banned certain types media, yet also approved the creation of the Library Defense whatever, and allows the Media censors to go around randomly raiding bookstores, yet also allows the Library defenders to put those books under their protection? What? Who the hell is running that government? A split personality?

Other than that, the plot seems pretty typical (in the girl-emulating-her-mysterious-prince sense), and the characters, with their typical anime overflow of emotion, are easier to connect to than Real Drive's relatively more subdued characters.

Still, I like Kasahara and Doujo, and I'm a sucker for a good books-are-awesome-based story, so I'm hooked.

IG PLEASE, PLEASE don't do what you usually do and screw these up. PLEASE?

I randomly downloaded Daughter of 20 Faces, and though it's a bit odd and I've never even heard of it before, once again, I'm a bit hooked. It's...odd. Really odd. I can't describe it any differently than that, but I really enjoyed the first ep, wacky animation and all, (though I still wonder how big-headed girl is a "treasure"), and I'm gonna keep with it.
