Montreal-based indie pop band; beloved by indietorrents; covered The Smiths; encourages people to set themselves on fire; somehow affiliated (or at least frequently mentioned to me along) with Metric, Feist, Broken Social Scene (I don't really know how that circle works); playing in Central Park this summer with Death Cab For Cutie and The Decemberists and people on my friendslist won't shut up about it, which makes me insane because I can't go.
But I think there's another band called Stars from ages back. If that's the one you're talking about, then I have no information.
Oh, yeah, and lyrics for them do exist. But it's not a complete listing - I believe they're missing the debut album. And in the process of trying to figure out the difference between "A Lot of Litt Lies..." EP and Nightsongs LP, I discovered that Emily Haines did vocals for "Going, Going, Gone"!

I'll have to find that song now!
I ordered their Set Yourself on Fire album after downloading half the songs from it and deciding I liked it, along with the lyrics. And yey for lyrics! I can link people much easier to them now!
We're thinking of the same band. Which Smiths song did they cover? AND YES. I REMEMBER THAT SONG! You're Ex-Lover is Dead, right? And I definitely see the corolation between Stars and Metric. I don't listen enough to Feist and Broken Social Scene to decide about them though. And what time in the summer? Cause I may end up there again sometime in August.
"This Charming Man". It's a nice cover. Different. Smiths groupies might not appreciate it, but not being someone who's absolutely in love with The Smiths, I like the cover.
Apparently Kevin Drew (BSS), Emily Haines and Amy Millan all went to school together in Toronto. (Maybe Stars is Toronto based instead of Montreal - I'm not sure at this point.) Then again... I think everyone is in Broken Social Scene, because as I understand it, BSS is not so much a band as it is a giant collaboration between an insane number of music geniuses. There's a couple of guys at the core of BSS, but I'm not sure who they are - although I'll probably go look it up after this because it beats writing a history paper.
I think they're actually playing in August. Maybe the 18th, but don't hold me to that, I could be way off.
Leigha would call it Sacrilege, but I often find myself enjoying covers more than the originals. So I'll have to look for it (assuming it's not off the 2005 album).
Collaboration projects often turn out the best results. Who knows, this group may turn me back onto BSS. I've already been investigating Metric on my own.
