Cool... do you play a lot of bridge? I used to play much more but manage once or twice a week and the occasional tournament. Actually I teach more now than I play but I enjoy both.

I live in Oxford, Mississippi so there isn't too much opportunity for playing bridge. I do play at least once a week in town, and maybe another time or two in a neighboring town. When I first started, the "little ole ladies" that played here were very stuck in a rut as far as their bidding and general aggressiveness went. But after I read a few books by Bergen and Lawrence, and began implemented their strategy, they picked up with new life. Now they are all much better, and they make me have to improve all the time just to stay on top. So much fun, but I think the next step is a new bidding system. SAYC is fun and everyone knows it, but it's time for a big club system or something! I would teach, but it's hard to recruit new bridge players here. I've tried for about 3 years now, but I've only managed to bring people who used to play back to the scene. Well, c'est la vie, I suppose.

I think the thing with bridge is that those who really want to play find it on their own. Other than that, people who like to play casually find duplicate too intimidating. I'm not sure what else can be done. Let's face it, when you get the bridge bug, you are sucked in for life.
I play a relatively basic 2/1 system with a few gadgets. I've played weak no trumps and I think those are fun at matchpoints. I've never learned the big club outside of what I have to do to defend against it.
I don't play on too much but when I do, I play on Bridgebase Online... Have you checked that out? It's free and it's pretty cool.
