meet Muhammadin...

this precious petit garçon is one of ten people in the host family i live with. never a dull moment.

and today, i did all my laundry by hand. my hands and arms are very sore. and let me just say that this experience has taught me that i have taken most things for granted in my accessible western life [and it has only been one week and one day]. i am by no means saying that i do not miss such luxuries as running water--HOT running water, reliable electricity and plumbing, and showers....i can bathe out of buckets for a little while. ce n'est pas un problème. i will just appreciate them more upon my return, that is all. besides, there are many ways this society makes up for the things it lacks...

like the fact that strangers look you in the eye, smile, and say hello to you just because it is kind.

i would rather have a soul than a steaming hot shower, thanks.
(but i am looking forward to june when i can have both!)

TALK TO ME!

[oh, oui, c'est mon anniversaire.]
