I remember that conversation we had about ‘feeling’ God. I can remember the envy I felt towards those who could feel his presence and a growing sense of self-hatred for myself because I couldn’t. During my brief (and I do mean brief) reawaking as a Christian, I looked to God for comfort and company, but all I felt was loneliness. I’ve stated that there are a myriad of reasons why one could forsake God: science, philosophy, historical reasons; however, in the end the truth of the matter is that I don’t believe in God because I was unhappy and more than anything else I wanted it: happiness. I was weak, so I gave up, not just on God, but on everything. I created a fake self to project onto the world, an artifice that was made whole by the thoughts of others. I ran away. It was like death, that cold grip on my heart squeezed until it burst and it ended. I was lucky, it happened when I was young and the full social and parental binders were in effect. They’re off you now. You know, surprisingly no one saw this coming. You were always so quiet even though you’re a fairly good looking guy (15 ladies and 2 gay men have confirmed this.). It should have been obvious that something was up, but no one saw. You know Heath, although for the past 7 or so odd years of our friendship, despite the brusque persona I wear in public, I’m actually a nice person to talk to in a manner besides argumentation. You’re always welcome to give me a call, I am your friend and I would be more than willing to place my life on the line to help you. If you ever feel the need just give me a call, you know my number.

P.S. This wasn’t some crappy attempt to convert you to atheism.

P.P.S I’ve got something than may interest you in academia again, it’s involves computers (not computation, so no math!), psychology and non-theological philosophy. Basically, it contains the salient form of some ideas from Snow Crash and MGS2. You can totally ignore it if you wish.
