...
I never thought it would come to this.
Backstory: About twelve years ago (Okay, fine, 12 July 1996), I woke up and decided to give up ice cream. I can't explain why. It certainly had nothing to do with lactose intolerance, because I still consume far too much milk and cheese. I think I wanted to try my own will power, and the best way I could come up with was to give up something I loved. This included all forms of ice-cream-like things: sorbet, custard, pretty much anything frozen that you could scoop. It was hard for a while. My parents thought I was insane (and let's face it - I was...), and kept ice cream in the house. Ooh, and the custard from the stand down the road. Man, I loved that crap. I kept it up and eventually ice cream just lost its appeal to me.
Flash forward to right now.
I'm watching "Good Eats" on the Food Network, and they did a piece on Cold Stone Creamery. I nearly gagged, because the ice cream looked disgusting. Disgusting! This was never the goal! And yet here I stand, actually repulsed by the sight of a delectable dessert.
Good lord. It just... did NOT look appetizing. Crazy.

In other news, I'll be entirely away from my computer this weekend. My last entry alluded to a mysterious "campout," which is going on this weekend. It's the Duke grad student campout to try to get basketball tickets, and I'm doing it again. I'm starting to get more into the spirit of the thing - pretty much the only time Duke grad students are encouraged to act like drunk undergrads - but I'm still a bit wary of it. If I get tickets, I probably won't buy them. A) I can't really afford the dough, and B) I wouldn't use most of them. Resale's always an option, but nah. I don't care that much. I will get to spend the weekend outside, they'll feed me pretty much for free, and it's a good time to meet people and spend quality time with Matt, whom I don't get to see much these days. Oh, and we can't forget the beer (shut up, chat baby).
Did I mention that we have to be awake for about 48 hours? They sound a horn and we have to check in, and they can sound that thing at any time. Then there's set up and clean up and getting home - so I'll be awake from about noon tomorrow through 8 am Sunday. Thankfully, the Packer game is the night game Sunday, so I can sleep a bit before heading out to the bar.
This weekend should be fun. The weather seems like it'll be nice, and I'll bring a couple books or something. Maybe I'll wander to the law school RVs and watch their TVs like Dave and I did last year.
annoyances,
