What can you say is truly yours? (tm)

When I think about it, I'm not entirely sure. I'd think that everything I have is mine, but is it really? I mean, it's in my posession for a little while, I suppose, but will I keep it forever? Will it last forever? Forever is an extremely long time for me.

William, my horse, he's not really mine is he? He's not like a pencil or any other sort of object. He's got a mind of his own, and personality of his own. He disobeys. A lot. He's generally a good horse, but of course he's got his moments. But I wouldn't call him my property.

And I wouldn't call the kittens mine, either. If anyone belongs to anyone else in that situation, I'd have to say I belong to them. Who has the run of the house? Who demands when to be fed, or pet, or otherwise loved? Who goes where they want, does what they want, at any time that they want? Who climbs on who like a cat tree?

The timers certainly aren't mine. They belong to whomever it is they hold the sands for. They merely sit on one of my shelves until it's time. I wouldn't ever try to lay claim on those.

So what is mine? What will I have forever and ever and never let go of? What will I never let anyone else touch...

My scythe. I'll be damned if anyone else ever gets their hands on that. That is mine. Very incredibly in every single way and meaning mine. I've always had it, it's always been with me, and it always will be. Mine.
