Late afternoon at the pond
"Buck and a half" and "Lexx" about 30 minutes before sunset.
Here's "Buck and a Half" and "Lexx" visiting the fish pond late in the day about a week ago. B&H is Lexx's son and looks exactly like him, but is neater and looks relatively "fresh and new". Lexx is a veteran of many rutting seasons and is really starting to show his age. Buck and a Half has come a long way since having his umbilical hernia surgery when he was a little fawn. He has grown up to be nearly as big as Lexx, and still has a little growing to do. Although their antlers will be nearly identical in size, Lexx's pair is going to have extremely broad palms, much less likely to be damaged in fighting with another buck. It's hard to tell who the next herd leader will be when Lexx "retires", but the odds favor Buck and a Half moving up to that position, although Houdini will definitely be a contender.
