Request: cocacat15’s line-based challenge
(it’s my opening line)
Summary: Memories can do this to you,
y’know. ^_^
Notes: I almost didn’t write tonight. I
really, really didn’t want to, so I want to thank cocacat15 for having a
request that got me to still make my personal requirement. =)
Ok ,you know you've lost your mind
when you laugh and cry at the same time, he thought. But how else could he react?
It had
happened so suddenly, sweeping aside all other thoughts and flooding his senses
with memory. Memory, something he had lost in the process of descending. He
smiled as he wiped the tears off his cheeks with the back of his hand. Oh God,
it had been worth every minute of struggling with amnesia for the past three
months to be here.
He still
didn’t remember his time while ascended and he doubted that everything had truly returned, but he
had certainly gotten wind of more than enough to finally act. He started
chuckling again as he turned onto the street that would take him to his
ultimate destination. How many nights had he lain awake trying to sort out his
feelings and figure out some complicated plan to see if he had some chance? It
seemed fitting, somehow, that things would be so simple.
He didn’t want to let me go, he told himself happily. But we knew I couldn’t stay; so he said he’d
wait. That spark of longing he’d thought he saw in Jack’s eyes hadn’t been
his imagination! He felt overjoyed and relieved-nervous and a tad frightened.
There weren’t second thoughts, were there? He doubted it. He could remember,
now, how steady Jack was, how loyal. Too bad they had wasted time, although
that hadn’t been under their control.
Now was the
time to seize the moment and run with it. He laughed aloud at his rushing
thoughts, suddenly giddy as he spotted Jack’s house ahead-the porch light was
on as evening arrived. His heart beat quicker as he pulled into the driveway
and his smile faded a little as his fingers tingled in anticipation.
Jack was
waiting at the front door when he finally got out. He stopped on the bottom
step of the porch and just stared at his friend for a good minute, letting all
of his emotions lay naked in front of the other man. Jack’s eyes widened.
He grinned.
