A Squishy Hug of Shamelessness

Jul 10, 2010 09:49

We've got a Saturday chock full of shamelessness today, so keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Here we go!

Kate Coomb's THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS will be getting a new translation - Japanese! (The Japanese rights have just sold.) Domo arigato!

SHADOW by Jenny Moss got a fantastic review in the School Library Journal. To quote:

Fans of fairy-tale retellings like Robin McKinley's Beauty (1978) and Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted (1997, both HarperCollins) will enjoy this tale's slightly more mature mix of fantasy and adventure with a touch of romance.
If those comparisons don't make you want to run out and buy SHADOW right now, I don't know what will!

Speaking of reviews, Leah Cypess's MISTWOOD is starting to rack them up. Voya said: "Debut author Leah Cypess has spun a fascinating tale of loyalty and love that female teen readers will devour." And BCCB said readers will "get sucked into the quick-moving story right up to the startling conclusion, finding themselves fascinated by Isabel’s struggle to determine who or what she exactly is and whether her loyalties lie anywhere other than with herself." Yeah, reviews don't get much better than that!

Amazon's Best Picks for Kids and Teens in 2010 (so far) had some Inkie love this week - why yes, that is THE BONESHAKER by Kate Milford!

And chiming in with more great press, Grace Lin was interviewed in Publisher's Weekly, discussing her new book LING & TING: NOT EXACTLY THE SAME, Newbery Honors and the challenges of writing multi-cultural books.

Megan Crewe has a new honor for GIVE UP THE GHOST: it has been nominated for the Sunburst Award for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic alongside the likes of Cory Doctorow and Charles de Lint!

Finally, we have some AMAZING deals to announce this week. We're so so so so so so so so so (times infinity) excited when our Inkies sell books and this week we have TWO news deals for our very own Megan Crewe and Anna Staniszewski. From Publisher's Marketplace:

Megan Crewe's THE WAY WE FALL, in which a 16-year-old challenges her fears, finds a second chance at love, and fights to keep her family and friends safe as a deadly new virus devastates her island community, to Catherine Onder at Disney-Hyperion, in a significant deal, at auction, in a three-book deal, for publication in Winter 2012, by Josh Adams at Adams Literary (NA).
and...

Anna Staniszewski's debut MY UN-FAIRY TALE LIFE, about a 12-year-old who goes on missions to save magical kingdoms -- but with bloodthirsty unicorns, manic clowns, and an insanely useless gnome sidekick, she's not sure she's cut out for the job anymore, to Rebecca Frazer at Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, by Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency (NA).
Yeah, we basically can't stop smiling over here at the Inkpot! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
