Summary: Harry waits for news of Draco.

Harry spent the remainder of the day trying to convince himself he was enjoying the peace and quiet. Indeed, the house was almost eerie in its silence without Malfoy racing around in a spastic manner or else lying about and purring. As evening approached, Harry became anxious. He had yet to hear from Hermione as to how well Malfoy had responded to the antidote that had been used on him. She called as Harry was thinking of what to have for dinner.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Harry," Hermione chirped. "Are you enjoying your Malfoy-free existence?"

"It's quiet here," Harry admitted. "Has Malfoy been sorted out?"

"Oh yes," she told him. "They're keeping him at St Mungo's overnight for observation, however. Thanks for taking care of him for a few days, Harry."

"It was no problem," he assured her.

The problem would be getting used to not having Malfoy around any longer.

Harry couldn't sleep. He had gone to bed at his normal time and then proceeded to toss and turn. He missed the warm weight of Malfoy half draped over him, and he even missed Malfoy's nightly ritual of kneading and purring. After staring at shadows on the ceiling for what seemed like hours, Harry Summoned his CD player from the living room and fell asleep to the soft sounds of music.

"Mew!"

Harry chuckled at the antics of the kitten he held in his lap. He had gone to visit a shelter to see about adopting a cat, but for the time being he was simply socializing with the various cats, petting the adults and playing with the kittens. It was nice to rub tummies and hear purrs again. Not yet convinced he wanted an actual cat, Harry decided to think it over before making a decision.

That evening, Harry plopped down on the sofa to watch a game of football. His action produced a tiny tinkling sound, and Harry reached into the sofa cushions and pulled forth one of the balls that Malfoy had played with by batting all over the house. Finding it both amused and saddened him, and Harry was forced to admit that he was lonely without Malfoy. Although having Malfoy in his home had seemed an imposition at first, Harry had found himself glad of the company, even though Malfoy hadn't spoken a word to him. He'd been rather clever at communicating, however, and Harry had never had difficulty understanding what Malfoy wanted. He wondered how much Malfoy remembered of the time he'd spent here, convinced he was a cat. Would he be embarrassed? Angry? Lonely?

The following afternoon, Harry was planning another trip to the rescue shelter. After spending another near-sleepless night, he needed to do something. He was reaching for his coat when the doorbell rang. Assuming it was Ron and Hermione, Harry dashed to the door and flung it open. His welcoming smile dropped into an 'o' of surprise when he saw who his visitor was.

"Potter, we need to talk," announced Draco Malfoy. "May I come in?"
