Summary: What's the first day of classes without Harry and Draco getting into a fight?

The first day of classes at Hogwarts wouldn't be the same if Potter and Malfoy didn't get into a fight the instant they laid eyes on one another. This time, however, each was running late to class so neither of them had any of their usual friends in the vicinity for support.

Harry was rushing around a corner when Malfoy came striding from the other direction, and they ended up colliding and spilling their books and quills all over the floor.

"Potter, you clumsy troll!" raged Draco, scrambling to pick up his text books.

"You ran into me, you daft prick!" Harry yelled back, bending to pick up his quills before they could roll away. He closed his hand around a green quill, only to have Malfoy smack him.

"That one is mine, Potter."

Harry responded by giving the other boy a push, only to get shoved back in return. He stumbled back with a yelp, automatically grabbing a handful of Malfoy's robes to steady himself. He thunked heavily into the wall behind him, dragging Malfoy with him. Their combined weight caused the wall to give, and the boys fell through a previously unseen opening with matching cries of fright.

They were in total darkness.

Harry began running his hand over the wall.

"What are you doing, Potter?"

"Searching for a light switch."

"Don't be absurd! There's no light switch in...here." Draco's voice trailed off as he heard a faint click and the small room they were in was suddenly illuminated.

They looked around. The room was small, barely six by six feet, and the ceiling was low. Each surface was made of the same rough stone as the rest of the castle, and there was nothing but some bare shelves in the room with them--no door was visible.

"Well, this is a fine mess you've gotten us into, Potter!" Draco spat in frustration.

"You started it!" Harry shot back angrily.

They glared at one another in stony silence until Harry pushed past Malfoy and began running his hands over the wall once more. "The doorway must be here," he muttered.

"Stand back, you imbecile," Draco ordered, drawing his wand. When Potter stepped aside, Draco aimed his wand at the wall and cried "Alohamora!" Nothing happened. Frowning, Draco repeated the process, pointing at each of the other three walls in succession. When no door conveniently opened, he slumped down to sit on the floor. "We're going to die in here, aren't we?" he mumbled morosely.

"Don't be daft," chided Harry. "Someone will come looking for us eventually." He, too, slid down the wall to sit on the cold stone floor and began to whistle tunelessly.

Draco sniffed disdainfully and angled his body away from his nemesis, and Potter did the same. They cast occasional glares at one another over their shoulders as they waited to be rescued.

"I'm hungry."

"I am aware of that, Malfoy. You've announced it a dozen times already."

"How long do you reckon we've been in here?"

"Approximately five minutes longer than the last time you asked."

"You needn't be rude, Potter. I was merely attempting polite conversation."

Harry sighed and rested his chin on his knees. He'd cast his outer robes aside in the interest of comfort, and Malfoy had followed suit. "If you'd like to engage in polite conversation, may we discuss something more interesting than how hungry you are or how long we've been here?"

"Such as?"

"Such as how we're going to get out of here," Harry replied.

"I thought you were confident someone would come looking for us," Draco said, his voice slightly alarmed.

"Yes, but that was hours ago."

"We're going to die, aren't we?"

"Of course not, someone will-"

"Kiss me, Potter."

"...come along and...what?!"

"I've always wondered what it would be like to snog a boy, and I don't want to die without finding out," Draco said in a rush.

Harry was about to reiterate that they weren't on the verge of dying when his hormones gave him a swift kick and demanded that he oblige the handsome Slytherin. "If you insist, Malfoy," Harry said, trying to sound reticent about the situation. Making an exaggerated pucker of his lips, he closed his eyes and leaned forward...only to find himself party to the most heated and intense snog of his young life. Harry was no stranger to kissing. He'd snogged a couple girls and a few boys, but none of them had ever made him feel this way. The two of them battled for control of the kiss, but Malfoy was obviously more experienced, and Harry surrendered with a small whimper of pleasure. As he reached a tentative hand up to touch Malfoy's hair, the other boy speared his own fingers through Harry's messy locks, anchoring his head and devouring him with his kisses. Harry was on the verge of total surrender when their romantic idyll was tragically interrupted.

"Malfoy? Potter? What is the meaning of this?!"

It was Professor McGonagall to the rescue, and Harry couldn't decide if she'd arrived too late or too soon.

As the boys sprang apart with matching expressions of guilt, Minerva's lips thinned into an angry line. "That will be twenty points from each of you for cutting classes in favor of-of kisses!"

"But I..."
"But he..."

"That is quite enough!" Minerva raised her voice, effectively silencing the wayward students. "You'll also be serving detention...separately. And the next time you wish to demonstrate your affection for one another, you will do it on your own time, and I suggest you not get yourselves locked in somewhere again." Without waiting for a response, she pivoted smartly on her heel and marched out of the small room, fully expecting the students to follow her.

Harry and Draco trailed obediently in her wake.

"So, how about it, Potter?" Draco whispered.

"Huh?"

"Would you like to snog on our own time...say, tonight on the Astronomy Tower, after our detentions?"
