Summary: Hermione desperately needs someone else to take care of Draco Malfoy for a couple days.
Harry stared at Hermione's head in his fireplace and shook his own head slowly. "No way...I can't do it," he insisted.
"Harry, I'm desperate," Hermione implored. "I wouldn't have asked otherwise. Besides, you said last night that you wanted to take him home." She had Floo called Harry in a panic, telling him that she and Ron had to keep Ginny's daughter a few extra days because Ginny's newborn son needed to remain at St Mungo's to undergo some tests. None of them had realized until recently that Cindy was allergic to cats, and being around Malfoy had caused her to react with itchy, swollen eyes, sneezing and hives. The fact that Malfoy had ended up with feline characteristics was due to Ron's botched hex--one that several experts were still trying to unravel.
"Surely, you can take care of Malfoy for a couple days?" Hermione was still pleading with him. "He's really no bother at all, especially if he can find a sunny spot to nap in. Please, Harry? I'll bring along his toys and treats and..."
"Alright, alright," Harry caved with a flap of his hands.
"Thanks, Harry!" chirped his friend. "You're the best!" Her face disappeared from the flames, and an instant later, the crack of Apparition sounded in Harry's living room as Hermione reappeared in person, Draco Malfoy at her side.
Malfoy's slitted pupils immediately dilated with terror, and with a hiss, he dove behind the nearest piece of furniture to hide. Hermione just sighed and shook her head. "He'll come out eventually," she remarked. "Now, here are some treats," she said, handing Harry a bag of dried beef. "His physiology is such that he still eats normal food, so don't try to give him cat food," she warned. "I've also brought some tins of tuna, which you can simply scoop out onto a dish for him. Otherwise, you can give him some of what you prepare for yourself, as long as you stick to meat and vegetables. Oh, and he can have a small bit of cream. There are some toys in here too, in case he gets obnoxious," she added, handing over a bag of supplies.
"Does he need a litterbox?" Harry asked, wincing at the thought.
"We've been putting him outside a few times each day," Hermione chuckled. "He manages to get the job done on his own."
"Where will he sleep?"
"He's been sleeping on our sofa," Hermione shrugged. "I have to get home and help Ron with Cindy," she added. "Thanks again, Harry!" With a sharp sound, she Disapparated, leaving Harry alone with Malfoy...who thought he was a cat.

It had taken a good half hour, but Malfoy had finally emerged from behind the armchair and joined Harry on the sofa. He seemed content to curl up at one end, while Harry sat at the other as he watched the telly. He was startled when Malfoy abruptly launched off the sofa to bat at some birds on the telly, but then Harry threw his head back and laughed. He was even more delighted when he could see Malfoy's ears twitching beneath his blond hair. He spent some time wiggling a furry toy on a string for his house guest and thinking that Hermione had been right--Malfoy wasn't much trouble at all.
Later, when Harry made dinner, he shared some chicken and potatoes with Malfoy, amused to watch his guest carefully scoop up bits of food to eat. At least he was using his hands, although the motion seemed clumsy. Malfoy ate his chicken quickly then licked his lips and eyed Harry's plate. "Merow?" he asked.
"No," Harry said firmly, "you've already had your share. Finish your potatoes." Malfoy's eyes narrowed, but he obediently scooped up his chunks of potato and ate them. Harry rewarded him with a few bites of the dried beef, then went out the back door into the garden, calling, "Here kitty kitty," for Malfoy to follow him. Malfoy darted past him and disappeared into the darkness, but Harry was confident he wouldn't be able to escape the high walls of the garden. After waiting about five minutes, Harry heard a nearby rustling, and he saw silvery eyes reflecting the light from the kitchen back at him. He opened the door and called once more, and Malfoy bounded past him and into the house. Harry rewarded him with another small treat. The rest of the evening passed quietly, with Malfoy napping at his end of the sofa. Harry finally turned off the telly and got ready for bed.
Harry had slipped into a light doze when he felt the bed dip beneath the weight of another body. Malfoy stretched out along Harry's side and began to purr...loudly. Harry froze momentarily, then he nudged his guest none too gently in an effort to get Malfoy to leave. The blond just turned up the volume of his purrs and nuzzled Harry's hand. Harry held his breath, but when his new bedmate seemed to settle down, he relaxed again. That is, until one of Malfoy's hands landed on his stomach and began to knead.
