I didn't usually wake up when Niko came home. That is, unless he stood in my bedroom doorway and loomed. I cracked one eye open. "Wha'?" I croaked.
"Someone informed Promise that a vampire was attacked at the Ninth Circle last night," said Nik. "Do you know anything about that?"
"I was there," I replied, closing my eye again. "Go 'way."
"Cal, you cannot keep beating up Ishiah's customers."
"Wasn't me," I insisted. "Spartacus launched an aerial assault. I had to wade into the fight and break it up."
Spartacus stretched beside me in bed and cracked a toothy grin.
