Harry was eagerly awaiting Draco's return from Hogsmeade, so of course his husband was running late. Eventually, Draco stepped out of the Floo and was immediately swarmed by Ben, Jasmin, and Chewy, all of them yapping at once. When it was Harry's turn to greet Draco, he did so with a baby in each arm. Both of them blinked up at their father with sleepy yawns. Harry led the way into the family room and settled the twins into their carry cots before grinning at Draco.
"I have a surprise for you," he whispered.
Draco groaned. "Not another pair of ridiculous pants, Harry, please. Isn't it enough that I'm wearing the pair you already gave me?"
Harry had opened his mouth to refute Draco's lament, but he was instantly sidetracked. "Wait. You're wearing those see-through green--"
"Yes."
"Let's go upstairs," blurted Harry.
"I think not," Draco sniffed.
"Your surprise is upstairs."
Draco raised a brow. "I'm not falling for that again."
Harry couldn't help but laugh. "No, really. It's in our bedroom."
"We can't just skive off upstairs," said Draco. "Frances has retired to her suite for her regularly scheduled nervous breakdown, and we have a passel of children to keep an eye on."
Harry glanced at Jamie and Lili before calling for the older children. "The babies are snoozing, and Ben and Jasmin can behave themselves for a few minutes."
Ben led Jasmin into the family room, followed by the felines. "We'll behave, Dad," he said. "I can read Jasmin a book."
"Are you going to show Daddy his new tree?" Jasmin asked, all wide-eyed innocence.
"Jasmin Louise!" Harry exclaimed. "You weren't supposed to tell." He bent closer to her and asked, "Where did you and Daddy go the other day?"
"It's a secret," Jasmin solemnly replied.
Harry threw his hands up in the air. To Draco, he said, "How does she manage to keep your secrets but not mine?"
"It's a secret," Draco deadpanned.
Harry huffed out an exasperated breath. "Well, now that the Kneazle is out of the bag, let's go upstairs and see your new tree."
Draco's eyes narrowed, but he turned and left the family room without another word. He headed up the steps with Harry following. Harry took shameless advantage of the opportunity to ogle his husband's arse and envision it in those sheer green pants.
Once they reached the top of the stairs, Harry barged past Draco. "Let me get the door," he insisted as they walked to the master suite.
"You didn't get me a Whomping Willow, did you?"
"Of course not, you ponker," said Harry. He opened the door and made a grand, sweeping gesture with his arm. "Behold!"
Draco stepped into their bedroom and paused. A beautiful gold Christmas tree was set up beside the small fireplace. It twinkled with white fairy lights and dazzling silver baubles, including snowflakes and snowmen. The only brightly-colored ornament on the tree was the red phone box that Harry had given Draco the dark December they'd spent apart.
Harry had decorated the adjacent mantel as well, placing their glass stag and dragon figurines, which were gifts from Narcissa, side-by-side in the center of it. On one end was Harry's owl sculpture that Draco had given him, while a beautiful snow globe from Narcissa was placed at the other end.
"I went out to get you another inflatable," said Harry, approaching the tree to admire it anew. "I know how much you love them."
"You've no idea."
"But, I bought this instead," Harry continued, ignoring Draco's comment. "I decided trimming it was going to need a woman's touch, so I firecalled your mum. When she arrived, I told her she could help decorate your new tree or take over minion-minding from Frances. She chose the minions, and Frances helped me decorate the tree with Cassi's input. What do you think?"
Draco stepped up next to Harry and ran a finger over the red phone box. "It's beautiful," he said. "Frances and Cassiopeia make a good team."
"Oy, I helped," Harry said, elbowing Draco in the ribs. He then wrapped an arm around Draco's waist, tugging him close. "Now that we have a tree in the privacy of our boudoir, I can buy you some naughty little ornaments to put on it. Better yet, I can hang your naughty G-strings on it, since you never wear them."
Draco made a scoffing sound and sidled away, eyes still on the tree. He looked up and frowned. "There's nothing on top."
"No, I thought you could choose a topper," Harry said. "A gold star perhaps, or maybe a silver one. You could even put a disco ball up there."
"Oh my god, Harry."
"I know!" exclaimed Harry, snapping his fingers. "How about a griffin?"
"Absolutely not."
