Robin's mummified cat hopped up on the couch beside Cal and purred. That is, if you could call such a noise purring. It didn't sound like nails on a chalkboard; it sounded like chalkboards being crushed by a Hummer.
"If you need extra money, put in some overtime," I told Cal.
"Goodfellow offered ten grand for a nude of you," he said. "That's a hell of a lot of overtime, Cyrano."
"Working to earn the money builds character."
Cal huffed. "That's what you said about sparring. Which means I should have more character than anyone else on earth right now."
