"Are you sure this is the best spot to pitch a tent?"
Ryo glanced up at his partner before he resumed sorting the tent stakes. "We're in a clearing, the ground is level, and someone already camped here before and made a fire pit. It's perfect."
"Shouldn't we be closer to the water?" asked Dee.
"We're close enough," said Ryo. "Besides, if the weather takes a turn for the worse, there could be a flash flood of that creek."
Dee expression registered alarm. "I thought the weather was s'posed to be great!"
"That's what the forecast says," Ryo agreed. "However, we'll be here for three days, and you know how the forecast can change." He stood and laid out the tarp for the tent floor. "Camping isn't a spectator sport, Dee."
"What do you want me to do? I can pound some stakes," Dee offered.
"I can manage the tent," said Ryo. "Why don't you gather some firewood?"
Dee nodded and loped into the trees. A moment later, he yelped and came racing back to the campsite. Dee pointed and stuttered, "S-s-sn..."
Ryo raised his eyebrows. "Spit it out."
"Snake!" cried Dee. "There was a snake in there!"
"There aren't any venomous snakes in the area," said Ryo. "It's harmless."
Dee shuddered. "I'm goin' home."
"We just got here."
"Yeah, well the snake was waitin' for us."
"That's ridiculous," scoffed Ryo. "We agreed to go camping, and we are going to enjoy every minute of it. It will be fun. Trust me."
"Didja tell the snake that?"
