Summary: Niko is a good brother. Not that Cal will tell him so.

By the time I got back to our apartment, Niko was home from his TA job at NYU. I shrugged out of my jacket and dropped it on the floor. Ignoring Nik's pointed glare, I made my way to the couch and slumped onto it. I thought about Chipper Barbie from the pizza place, thought about Niko dealing with girls like her all the time, and I shuddered. "I don't know how you put up with it, day in and day out."

"I've had over two decades of practice."

I turned my head to see my brother still glaring at me. "What? No. Ass. I meant college co-eds. I encountered one today, and..." I couldn't put the horror into words.

Niko, seated at the kitchen table, leaned back and crossed his arms. "So in addition to your clown phobia, you now also have a phobia about college co-eds."

I frowned. "I wouldn't say--"

"I expect that means a co--ed clown would send you straight over the edge."

"Ugh! Jesus, Cyrano. Thanks for putting that image in my head. It's not like I need to sleep or anything."

Niko's lips quirked. A big smile for him, the bastard. "Shall I avenge my little brother by exterminating Little Miss Sunshine?"

"Keep laughing, Nik," I growled. "She was more like Little Miss Dangerous with that bright smile, shrill shriek--"

"Cal."

"What?"

Niko massaged his forehead. "What caused her to scream?"

"Eh, it was my shirt."

Nik dropped his hand and leaned forward. How he could loom from that distance was a mystery. "We discussed this," he said.

By discussed, he meant he'd kicked my ass.

"You agreed not to wear violent or obscene T-shirts in public."

"It was one of my Badass Ninja approved ones," I protested. I stood up and pulled the shirt taut. "See? It says Have a nice day...somewhere else. All she saw was the first part, and she thought it was..." My shoulders twitched in another shudder. "Cute."

Niko's lip quirked again, along with one eyebrow. "Cute," he repeated, obviously amused. "She thought you were a ray of happiness. A font of love and peace. I can feel the sunshine from here."

I opened my mouth, thought of what I was going to say and what Niko's payback would be, and settled for insisting, "I am not a ray of sunshine. I'm a slice of hell."

"Yes, yes, heart of darkness. Scared of clowns and co-eds. Very frightening."

I scowled at my brother. He was fully human, whereas I was half human and half the most malignant race that had walked the earth. And Nik was making fun of me. I was grateful, damned grateful, that my only family wasn't terrified of me, but telling him so would be weird. I settled for flopping back on the couch and muttering, "You suck."
