Treacle and Truffle. She asked for a sequel to that fic, et voilà!
Summary: Draco and Harry discussed adding another dog to their family; perhaps they should have discussed it more.
Harry sat on the floor of the rescue, laughing as a passel of pups vied for the prime spot on his lap. Their wriggling bodies and wet tongues delighted Harry, and he wished he could take all of them home. However, he and Draco had agreed to get one pup, not an entire pack of them. It was difficult to choose, but Harry's attention continually settled on a half-grown black lab.
When Harry asked about him, the volunteer was happy to provide the information he had. "Jet was surrendered by his owner after she was in an auto accident. She loved him dearly but could no longer care for him, nor did any of her family offer to take him in. She rings us each week to see if Jet has found a new home yet. He's already house-broken and leash-trained."
"I'll take him," said Harry. "My, er, partner and I already have two labs, and Jet will fit right in."

Draco knew he should have consulted with Harry first, but when he'd seen an advert for silver labrador retriever pups for sale, he'd been instantly smitten. Draco had contacted the breeder and put a deposit on one of the pups. Today, he was going to pick her up. Since he wanted to surprise Harry, Draco summoned a Muggle hackney to drive him back and forth.
As soon as the new pup was handed to him, Draco was even more smitten with her. She was calm and quiet and allowed him to turn her over in his arms and rub her rounded belly. Draco imagined Treacle must have been like this as a pup. He paid the balance of what he owed for the puppy, excited to take her home to show Harry.
-
Harry stood at the French doors, grinning from ear to ear as he watched the dogs romping in the gardens. When he first brought Jet home and introduced him to Truffle and Treacle, there had been tails at half-mast, stiff front legs, and an embarrassing amount of arse sniffing. In short order, however, the adult females had decided to allow the young male dog to join their pack. Harry let them outside to give them plenty of room to play.
The front door opened, and Harry reluctantly turned his back on the scene outside to prepare Draco for their newest family member. While they'd discussed getting another dog, no firm plans had been made.
Harry met Draco halfway between the foyer and the parlor. His happy smile turned to brows furrowed in confusion as he beheld what Draco was carrying in his arms.
-
"Hello, Harry," greeted Draco. He handed the puppy to Harry and added, "Surprise!"
Harry's gobsmacked expression transformed into a delighted grin as the pup nestled close to him and licked his chin.
"Her name is Jinx,” said Draco. “I probably should have spoken to you first, but I wanted to surprise you.”
“She’s adorable,” said Harry, stroking one of Jinx’s floppy ears between his fingers.
“You’re not hacked off, then?”
“No, and I hope you won’t be, either.”
Draco frowned. “Sorry?”
-
“Come here,” said Harry. “I have something to show you.” He turned and led the way back to the parlor. “The girls are outside with--”
“What is that?” asked Draco, stepping close to the door. He was just in time to see Treacle and Truffle streak by with Jet racing along behind them. “Is that another dog?”
“Surprise,” Harry said weakly. “I got him from the rescue earlier today. His name is Jet.”
Draco looked at him, looked at Jinx, then looked back outside. He snorted out a laugh.
Harry chuckled, and soon the two of them were laughing uproariously. Harry bent to set Jinx down, and she immediately squatted and peed.
“At least Jet is housebroken,” Harry said.
Draco drew his wand and dealt with the puppy’s indiscretion. “Four dogs, Harry? We’ll become known as the...the Deranged Dog Daddies in the estate.”
“Dog Daddies?” Harry chortled. “That’s rich. We can have jumpers made with our slogan on the back for when we walk the pack.”
-
“Oh, Merlin,” sighed Draco. He scooped Jinx up once more. “We may as well introduce Miss Jinx to the rest of the family.” Draco opened the door and stepped outside.
Harry followed and closed the door behind him. “They’ll eat her for lunch.”
“They’ll do no such thing,” countered Draco. He whistled, bringing Truffle, Treacle, and Jet dashing up to him. Draco bent over, keeping Jinx in his arms, but allowing the others to sniff her. Jinx tucked her tail, but not before Draco felt a warm, wet spot develop on his arm.
“Ugh, she peed on me.”
Harry laughed and clapped him on the back. “You’ll wash, Doggy Daddy.”
