After breakfast in bed, Neville and Charlie procured bicycles to explore farther afield on the second day of their seaside holiday. They packed a picnic hamper and peddled out of the village and into the nearby hills. They conversed easily while admiring the pastoral scenery.
Neville called a halt to rest and eat lunch. Charlie swung a leg over his bicycle and whooped, "This is the life!" The echo of his voice seemed to ricochet off the rocks surrounding them, delighting Neville and making him laugh.
"We should go on holiday more often," said Neville. "Just the two of us."
