hp_coffeehouse Prompt No. 57 - Deep conversations over coffee
Summary: All the best stories begin with a drunken git and a titty cake.
"When I imagined having deep conversations over coffee with you, this isn't what I had in mind."
Malfoy frowned and added cream to his cup. "This is not what I'd consider coffee."
Harry had to agree. The Ministry's brew was far inferior to anything Malfoy served at Dragon Brew. He'd come to fetch Malfoy from a holding cell, leaving Malfoy's various friends to be collected by their families. Harry suspected Bulstrode wasn't best pleased to leave her own hen do to retrieve Goyle from the Ministry.
"What happened?" asked Harry.
"We were behaving ourselves for the most part," said Malfoy. "Considering it was a stag party, of course."
"Of course."
"Everything was going swimmingly until some drunken git, who I believe was also at the Crow and Boa for a stag, nicked one of Greg's titty cakes."
"Ah," Harry said with a solemn nod. "That's how all the best stories begin--with a drunken git nicking a titty cake."
Malfoy tried to glare, but the effect was ruined when his lip twitched. "Potter, you know very well from our time at Hogwarts that coming between Gregory and food is never a good idea."
Harry chuckled. "I do recall that, yes. Is that when the hexes started flying?"
"No, Greg picked the bloke up and tossed him across the pub," Malfoy replied. "To be fair, it was one of his mates who fired off the first hex. I think Greg and the original antagonist would have been content to settle matters with fisticuffs."
"Who was the first to retaliate from your side?"
Malfoy's gaze slid to the side. "I don't remember. It was all a confusing jumble after that."
Harry's eyes widened. "You didn't."
Malfoy's chin lifted. "I would like to go home now. I'll get precious little sleep before I need to open Dragon Brew as it is."
"I'll take you home," said Harry. He drained the last of his substandard coffee and stood up. "Your wand has been confiscated for twenty-four hours, but I'll make sure you get it back as soon as the time is up."
Malfoy pushed his coffee cup away. He'd barely taken two sips. He stood up and followed Harry through the labyrinthine Ministry until they arrived at the bank of Floos. Harry escorted Malfoy home, hoping to be invited to stay. He wasn't surprised, however, when Malfoy made no such offer. He did appear exhausted, and Harry knew he needed sleep more than sex.
Harry settled for stealing a quick kiss as Bean wound around their ankles. "I'll see you tomorrow morning," said Harry, stepping back after making sure the kitten wasn't behind him. "You'd best hope Ethel and Mabel haven't heard the news by then."
Malfoy pinched the bridge of his nose. "Oh, sweet Salazar."
"Get some sleep," said Harry. He was still grinning when he returned home to his own kitten.
