"Which of these looks best, do you think?"
Harry glanced up from where he was tying his loafers to see Draco holding up two shirts. One was a lovely shade of plum, while the other was gray. "They're both nice," he said with a hint of a shrug. They had an important appointment today, but not one they couldn't dress casually for.
"Harry, I can't just look nice," Draco huffed. "I need to look my best."
Harry stood up straight and planted his hands on his hips. "Draco, we are meeting prospective surrogates," he said. "We are not meeting modeling agents."
Draco responded with a haughty sniff. "For your information, this also works on women," he announced, making a sweeping gesture that encompassed his entire body. "Do not roll your eyes at me, Harry. I want the mother of our child to find me attractive. What's wrong with that?"
Harry rolled his eyes again. "Whichever woman we choose will be paid quite handsomely for acting as our surrogate. It's not necessary that she find either of us attractive."
Draco glared until Harry relented. "Fine, wear the plum shirt. It's my favorite."
"I'll wear the gray," Draco declared. "It brings out my eyes."
Harry thanked the young woman seated across the table from them, and she took her leave. He slumped back in his chair and looked at Draco. "How many more prospects has the agency arranged for us to interview today?" he asked. Harry hadn't found fault with any of them, and he was beginning to resent the waste of his time. As far as he was concerned, the agency should have selected a surrogate, rather than insisting that he and Draco make that choice.
Draco consulted his notes. "Four," he announced.
"Ugh. Let's just pick one and be done with it."
"Harry!" Draco exclaimed. "We cannot simply choose one and be done with it! We are selecting a woman to carry our baby. Our baby, Harry! She must be carefully screened to be sure she's healthy, intelligent, beautiful-"
"Beautiful?"
"We don't want an ugly baby, Harry."
"Shame on you," Harry berated him. "We will love our child, no matter what he or she looks like."
"She should also be blonde," Draco went on, as if Harry hadn't spoken. "All Malfoys are blonde."
"What if I want her to be a ginger, like my mum?"
Draco gasped, but before he could articulate a retort, the woman from the agency opened the door to the small conference room and introduced the next potential surrogate.
"Mr Potter, Mr Malfoy, this is Cressida Wainwright."
A beautiful blonde sashayed into the room, and her blue eyes lit up immediately. "Well, hello handsome," she purred in a husky contralto. "If you're looking to make a baby the old-fashioned way, I'm more than willing."
"I can't believe you talked me into choosing Cressida."
"She's charming, witty, intelligent, beautiful, healthy, and blonde."
"She also would have fornicated with you right there on the table in front of me, had you encouraged her even one bit."
"You're not jealous, are you? Because you sound jealous."
"Certainly not. Why should I be jealous?"
"Because she fancied me and not you, Draco."
