Summary: Harry encounters Draco Malfoy at a hostel, and life suddenly becomes more enjoyable.
Harry used a key card to open the door to his room in the hostel. He'd chosen a dorm room that slept two. Harry didn't need to save money on accommodations; staying in a hostel had simply sounded like a fun thing to do. His motto for the new year was Enjoy life, and what better way to enjoy it than to get out, travel, meet people, and have new, amazing experiences.
Harry shrugged out of his backpack and slung it on one of the beds. He was eager to meet the person he'd be rooming with. In the meantime, however, there were things to do in this small, coastal town, and he was going out to explore.
It was dinnertime when Harry returned to the hostel. Meals were included with the accommodations, as management liked to encourage their guests to socialize. Harry headed to his room to change first. Upon opening the door, he stopped dead in his tracks.
"Malfoy?!"
"Potter?!"
"What are you doing here?" Harry asked as he entered the room and closed the door behind him.
"I found out where you were staying and came to ruin your holiday," Malfoy drawled.
Harry considered that for a moment. "You're making that up," he accused.
"Very good, Potter," said Malfoy. "It seems you do recognize sarcasm when you hear it. What brings you to this hostel?"
Harry shrugged as he began rummaging through the clothing in his bag. "I wanted to try something new this year," he replied. "That meant trying new things and meeting new people. It's just my luck I end up with you for a roomie."
"You're welcome to find other accommodations."
"I'll do no such thing," said Harry. Impulsively, he stepped closer to where Malfoy was seated on the other bed, stuck his hand out and said, "Harry Potter. Pleased to meet you."
Malfoy's eyes widened in astonishment, but he sat up and shook Harry's hand. "Draco Malfoy."
Harry laughed in delight. "Have you eaten yet, Malfoy? No? Let's head to the common area for dinner."
Harry and Malfoy sat across from one another at dinner. Although they engaged in some small talk, each of them also spent time conversing with fellow travelers who were staying at the hostel. Once dinner was over, they accompanied some of their new friends to a club. Harry had never been much of a dancer, but what he lacked in talent, he made up for in enthusiasm. He danced with others from the hostel, some total strangers, and he even managed a couple dances with Malfoy.
Harry had to excuse himself to the gents after brushing up against Malfoy caused a commotion in his pants. He'd always harbored an intense fascination for Malfoy, and now, their close proximity was making Harry's body react in a manner that he doubted Malfoy would appreciate.
It was well after midnight when Harry, Malfoy, and their compatriots from the hostel left the club and walked back to their hostel. Along the way, Harry dropped back to keep pace with Malfoy.
"So, what really brought you here for holiday?" he asked.
Malfoy's shoulders lifted in a shrug. "I wanted to start the new year out fresh by taking a trip," he replied. "I reckon I could have chosen a five-star hotel, but Blaise has always raved about staying in hostels when he traveled with his mum and she wanted some, er, privacy."
Harry chuckled at that. He may have grown up without a father, but Zabini had grown up with far too many. He and Malfoy settled into easy conversation about their holiday so far, both of them marveling at how their paths had crossed in such an unusual place. By the time they returned to the hostel, they were chatting like old mates.
As they walked into their room, Harry acted on impulse. He drew Malfoy to him and kissed his old rival quite soundly. Malfoy initially tensed, but he quickly joined in. He leaned against Harry, winding his arms around Harry's neck and meeting Harry's tongue with his own.
They broke apart, both wide-eyed and panting for breath.
"Um, I didn't mean to do that," Harry stammered.
Malfoy raised one blond brow. "Are you apologizing?"
"No? I'm not actually sorry."
"Yeah, I'm not sorry either, Potter," said Malfoy. "As long as we're sharing a room, would you like to also share a bed?"
Harry didn't need to be asked twice.
At breakfast the following morning, Harry and Malfoy sat across the table from one another. They visited with other hostel guests, but they shared several private smiles between them. Harry couldn't stop grinning. He was already enjoying life more than at any time in the past year.
