Happy Cinco de Mayo! We had very nice weather today--the cats got outside, I hung a rug out to dry, and I sat on Mom and Dad's deck and visited with them and my aunt and uncle.
In honor of Spring, this month's JMDC prompt is a short list of garden words: compost, flower, garden, hard work, weeds. Use one, some, or all. The word(s) you choose need not be used in relation to a garden/gardening at all. Be creative! You may write/draw any fandom, pairing, threesome, gen fic, original fic, etc. Combine it with other prompts, if you like.
Please post your entry in your own journal (unlocked!) or a community of your choice, and leave me a link in the comments below. You have until May 31 at 10:00pm CST to submit an entry. At that time, I'll post links to the entries and draw a name from among the participants to receive a drabble from me.
Below is my entry for this month:

Harry's FriendSummary: Harry wishes he had Draco's life.
Harry sat back on his heels and swiped his damp brow with the back of his hand. He'd been sent to the garden to pull weeds, while the Dursleys had tea. Harry was hungry, but he'd get nothing to eat until he'd finished his task. He heaved a sigh and began pulling weeds again.
Harry wondered if Dobby could work some magic on the garden. He didn't dare call the little creature, however. There was no telling what would happen, should someone see Dobby in the light of day.
Harry yanked out a stubborn weed and thought about his friend. Draco was probably playing in his mum's garden, without having to do any of this hard work. Harry pondered the unfairness of it all, before he mentally scolded himself. It wasn't Draco's fault that he had a loving family, while Harry was an orphan whose only family barely tolerated him. At least he had a friend in Draco. That was more than he'd had before he met the other boy.
Harry cheered up as he recalled how his life had changed for the better. He'd learned magic was real, and that he was a wizard. He'd been treated well by Draco's family and fed until he could eat no more. Harry's stomach growled at the thought of food. He pulled one of Aunt Petunia's flowers, out of spite.
Once the weeds were dealt with, Harry gathered them up and added them to the composting. He entered the house quietly and washed his hands. When Harry emerged from the bathroom, Vernon started in on him.
"Took you long enough, boy," he sneered.
"There were a bunch of weeds," said Harry. "May I have something to eat now, please?"
Vernon leaned back in his chair, causing it to creak beneath his bulk. "The food has all been put away," he said with a smirk. "Had you finished faster, you could have eaten."
Dudley cackled with laughter.
"Go to your room, boy," said Vernon.
"Yes, sir," muttered Harry. His shoulders drooped as he plodded to the cupboard door and ducked into the space beneath the stairs. He rummaged beneath his thin blanket and found a biscuit, wrapped in a serviette, that Mrs Malfoy had sent home with him. Harry took a bite. The biscuit was stale, but at least it was something to eat. He chewed and swallowed, wondering what Draco was having to eat right now.
