Jae's Monthly Drabble Challenge # 153

Nov 06, 2018 19:43

It's cold and damp and gloooooomy here. Fie on that. I don't mind the cold, but I'd like to see the sun again.

To suit my gloomy mood, this month's JMDC prompt is: morose. If you want more of a challenge, fluff it up! You may write/draw any fandom, pairing, threesome, gen fic, original fic, etc. Combine it with other prompts, if you like.

Please post your entry in your own journal (unlocked!) or a community of your choice, and leave me a link in the comments below. You have until November 30 at 10:00pm CST to submit an entry. At that time, I'll post links to the entries and draw a name from among the participants to receive a drabble from me.

Below is my entry for this month:

Summary: Harry is still coming to grips with being a wizard.

"Did Mum scold you?"

Harry glanced up from where he was listlessly playing with toy dragons and met Draco's anxious gaze. "Huh?"

"Was Mum angry that you came to play with me?" Draco asked.

"No, not at all," Harry replied. "She just...she confused me, is all."

"How so?"

"She told me I'm a wizard," said Harry.

"That's rich, Harry," Draco hooted. He sobered when he realized Harry wasn't laughing. "Do you mean to tell me you didn't know?"

Harry fidgeted with the green dragon in his hands. "My aunt and uncle never mentioned it," he said. "I thought I was just a regular boy...just Harry."

"You don't want to be a Muggle," scoffed Draco. "Being a wizard is so much better. We're going to go to Hogwarts together, and it will be brilliant."

Mrs Malfoy had mentioned Hogwarts, which had confused Harry further. "What is Hogwarts?" he asked.

Draco goggled at him. "It's only the most amazing school for witches and wizards in all the world!"

Harry couldn't help but grin at his friend's enthusiasm. "Yeah? I can't wait to go there," he said.

"You can come to Diagon Alley with us, when we shop for school supplies," said Draco.

Harry was momentarily taken aback. Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon wouldn't give him money to shop for supplies to go to a school for witches and wizards. Before he became too morose, however, he recalled that Mrs Malfoy said his parents would have left him some money. Harry hoped it would be enough to buy his books and...

"Say, what do we need when we go to Hogwarts?" he asked.

Draco's eyes brightened. "We'll need wands, cauldrons, a familiar, school robes..."

Draco carried on, but Harry's mind had stopped at the first thing he'd said. "Wands?"

"We can't cast spells without a wand," said Draco. "Jinxes, too, although we wouldn't want to do anything terrible enough to get expelled."

Harry didn't like the sound of that, either. He was about to ask Draco about it, when Dobby appeared with a faint pop.

"Lady Malfoy says it is being time for you to go home now, Master Harry," he said. "She is saying your family will get upset."

Harry doubted that, but he knew better than to overstay his welcome. He handed the dragon back to Draco. "I'll see you later," he mumbled, hoping it was true.

Dobby the elf took Harry's arm and winked one big eye at him. "Lady Malfoy says I'm to be your personal elf," he said. "Whenever Harry Potter needs Dobby, he has only to be calling for him."

Harry nearly sagged in relief, and he smiled at Draco before Dobby caused them to disappear.
