Jul 02, 2017 16:07

July is going to be a busy month, both online and in real life. I am determined to win at July! :D

This month's JMDC prompt is a short list of words: back, cake, knock, like, sulk. Use one, some, or all. Feel free to use any variation you wish, too, such as "knocked" or "sulking". You may write/draw any fandom, pairing, threesome, gen fic, original fic, etc. Combine it with other prompts, if you like.

Please post your entry in your own journal (unlocked!) or a community of your choice, and leave me a link in the comments below. You have until July 31 at 10:00pm CST to submit an entry. At that time, I'll post links to the entries and draw a name from among the participants to receive a drabble from me.

Below is my entry for this month:

slythindor100 Challenge No. 207 - Draco's birthday
hd_pots_n_porn June/July challenge - birthday cake
Summary: Draco's birthday was a bust, so he orders his own bloody cake.

Draco was in full-blown sulk mode, which required the appropriate attire. Thus, he was dressed in his most comfortable pair of pyjama bottoms, along with his old Slytherin Quidditch T-shirt. Nevermind that it was past noon. No one but his mum had remembered his birthday this year, and Draco was distraught over it.

Pansy and Theo had stolen his thunder by having their baby the day before Draco's birthday, which meant that all of their mutual friends were focused on the mewling brat, relegating Draco to the role of second banana. Fine, he would order his own birthday cake. Draco had done just that, sending an owl yesterday to Lovegood's Baked Goods in Diagon Alley with his order. Luna Lovegood was completely barmy, but her culinary creations were all the rage.

Draco poured himself a glass of wine and draped himself across his leather sofa to resume sulking. He checked the time, again, and sighed. Again. When would his cake get here? He had expressly put a rush on his order, and it should have been delivered within twenty-four hours.

There was a knock at the door, followed by a man's voice. "Delivery!"

Draco slid off of his sofa and walked to the door, glass of wine still in hand. He opened the door and began to berate the deliveryman.

"It's about bloody time you--Potter?!"

"Hello, Malfoy. I have one order here from Lovegood's Baked Goods."

Draco's mouth worked soundlessly for a moment before he remembered how to form words. "Potter, since when have you begun working as a deliveryman?"

"Since today," Potter replied, shouldering Draco aside and entering his home without permission. "Dennis usually does Luna's deliveries, but his cat got out this morning, and he couldn't come in until he found her. I happened to be at Luna's shop, picking up some fairy cakes, and she was in a panic. I offered to drop your order off." As he spoke, Potter was strolling through Draco's home, until he located the kitchen. He set the box on the table and stood back with an expectant expression on his face.

Draco's old attraction for his rival flared to life, which made him irritable. "If you're waiting for a gratuity, you can piss off," he said. "Everyone knows you have more money than Merlin."

Potter grinned at him, as if he hadn't just been insulted. "I was instructed to wait to be sure you're happy with the product," he said.

"I see," Draco said slowly. "There's no need to wait, Potter. I'm quite certain I will be delighted with Loo...er, Lovegood's creation. Thank you and goodbye." There was no way that Draco wanted Potter to see he'd ordered himself a birthday cake.

"Don't be daft, Malfoy. It's not as if you ordered yourself a birthday cake, yeah?"

Draco felt his face get hot. "I would like you to leave now."

"Oh, come on! It can't be that bad," Potter admonished. "What did you order, a titty cake?"

"No, I did not order a titty cake! Wait, does Lovegood actually bake titty cakes?"

Potter nodded. "They're quite popular, especially for stag parties. Now, let's just have a look at...oh."

Potter had taken it upon himself to open the box, revealing the marvelous confection inside. It was a gorgeous, decadent-looking cake, from the artfully decorated tiers to the lovely script on the top...which read Happy Birthday Draco.

Potter opened his mouth. "Erm-"

"Not. Another. Word," Draco hissed, holding up a hand.

"I was only going to wish you a happy birthday, Malfoy," said Potter. "Is it today?"

"It was last week, but, well, Theo and Pansy had their baby the day before, and everyone got caught up in the excitement, and they just sort of forgot." Draco realized he was babbling, and he closed his mouth quickly, fidgeting with the hem of his tatty shirt. He ducked his head and glanced up at Potter through his lashes, already cringing at the ridicule he was about to be subjected to. Instead, Potter appeared thoughtful and...concerned even.

"I know what it's like to have your birthday ignored," said Potter. "It hurts, even if your friends didn't do it on purpose." He clapped his hands once and beamed at Draco. "Now then, what would you like to do for your birthday? It's only mid-afternoon, and there's plenty of time to go out and have fun."

"Fun with whom?"

"With me, of course," Potter replied. "It will be my treat, whatever you want to do. Art museum, concert, theater, dinner, Quidditch, sex, the London Eye, a trip to Hogsmeade-"

"Sex?!" Draco interjected.

Potter's eyes darkened behind his specs. "I was hoping you'd choose that," he murmured, voice gone low and rough.

Tingles of awareness shot through Draco's entire body and converged at his groin. "I didn't...that is, I wasn't choosing...that," he said slowly, trying to convince Potter or himself. Not even Draco was sure at that point. "I...ahem...I think I'd like to go shopping in Diagon Alley, then have a nice dinner in Muggle London."

"Splendid," said Potter. If he was disappointed by Draco's choice, he didn't show it. "I'll just nip home and change clothes, which should give you time to get ready. Unless you want to go out in public in your pyjamas?"

"My parents would disown me."

Potter laughed. "Alright, I'll meet you back here in half an hour. Shopping and dinner, it is."

Draco nodded his acceptance as a smile bloomed on his face. He was suddenly looking forward to the rest of the day. "After dinner, we can return here for dessert," he said.

Potter's eyes went to the beautiful cake. "I would be delighted to help you eat that."

Draco smirked at him. "Who says I was referring to my cake?"
