Summary: Harry checks out the newest shop in Diagon Alley.
Harry halted on the pavement outside of Dragon Brew. It was the newest shop in Diagon Alley, and already business seemed to be brisk. Harry hadn't anticipated coffee would go over well among the stuffy, tea-drinking set that London's magical society was comprised of. He smiled to himself; he hoped the owner could make a go of it.
Harry stepped inside and paused to inhale the rich aroma of freshly-brewed coffee. He preferred tea himself, but he was willing to support a new business. Besides, Harry had never been able to stay away from Draco Malfoy.
"Auror Potter, how nice of you to stop by."
Tingles of awareness shot through Harry at that familiar, clipped voice. He turned his head to see Malfoy regarding him with a wary eye. Harry stepped up to the counter and tipped his head back to peruse the vast array of selections.
"What may I get you, Auror Potter? Or, are you here on official business?"
Harry raised a brow. "Are you poisoning your customers?"
"Of course not!"
"Then, I am here for coffee," said Harry. He smiled at Malfoy, and he saw Malfoy's lips twitch in a reluctant grin.
"What will you have?" asked Malfoy.
"I'm not sure," said Harry. "I'm not much of a coffee aficionado, but I wanted to try something. What do you suggest?"
Malfoy's eyes brightened. "If you're a coffee neophyte, you may wish to start out with a simple dark roast," he replied. "You can work up to more adventurous styles later."
"That sounds fantastic," Harry said.
Malfoy nodded and moved away to prepare Harry's order. "Why are you really here?" he asked. "I find it difficult to believe you just showed up to try my coffee."
"Believe it or not, Malfoy, I'd like to see your business succeed," Harry countered.
Malfoy snapped a lid on Harry's to-go cup. "Ah, you're here out of the goodness of your heart, yeah?"
Harry accepted the coffee with a smile. "It's always possible to be kind, Malfoy," he said. "I find that when I treat people with courtesy and respect, that's how they treat me as well." He paid for his coffee and took a sip. It had a strong flavor, but it was smooth and robust, and Harry enjoyed the way it warmed him all the way to his stomach.
"Thanks, Malfoy," he said, raising his cup in a salute. "I'll see you around."
