dove_drabbles Prompt #45 - Ignore the clock
Summary: The Headmaster lures Professor Malfoy to the Black Lake.
"Are you looking forward to George's fireworks display tonight, Professor Malfoy?"
"As a matter of fact, I am, Headmaster," replied Malfoy.
Having baited his trap, Harry prepared to spring it. "I know the perfect place to view the fireworks," he said.
"Oh?" drawled Malfoy. That one syllable contained ten stone of skepticism. "I'm afraid our students will be crowding the Astronomy Tower."
"I'm not talking about the Astronomy Tower," said Harry. "The best place to view the fireworks is from the middle of the Black Lake."
"The Black Lake." Malfoy said it without inflection.
"Indeed," Harry said with a nod. "We can go out on the water, look up at the stars and constellations, then watch the fireworks."
"I certainly hope you enjoy yourself," said Malfoy. "Good day, Headmaster."
"Malfoy, wait," cried Harry. "I'd like you to go out on the lake with me. It will be lonely, otherwise."
"Perhaps Professor Lovegood will accompany you."
"I believe Luna would rather canoodle with Neville," countered Harry. "Think of it as an adventure, Malfoy," he cajoled.
Malfoy sniffed. "Just how do you plan to get to the middle of the lake?"
"We'll take a kayak."
"A kayak?!"
"It will be fun," Harry said, smiling at the prickly professor.
"For you, perhaps," said Malfoy. "I want no part of it, Potter."
"Would you like next weekend off?" asked Harry, playing his trump card.
"I've already requested it, and you approved of it, Headmaster."
"I can just as easily disapprove of it, Professor."
Malfoy's eyes narrowed, and his nostrils flared. "That's blackmail," he hissed.
Harry leaned in and lowered his voice. "No, that's Slytherin," he countered. "I'll expect you on the shore of the lake at seven."

It was twenty minutes past the hour when Malfoy met Harry by the Black Lake. Harry had anticipated that the surly Potions Professor would ignore the clock; therefore, he had deliberately told Malfoy to show up half an hour before he actually needed to. So, while the professor thought he had a leg over, in reality, he was ten minutes early.
Malfoy pointed at the small craft, which was bobbing on the water. "What is that?"
"It's our kayak," Harry answered.
"I am not getting into that...that death trap, Potter."
"Yes, you are, and it's Headmaster Potter," said Harry. "Now, climb aboard." Harry smirked at Malfoy, letting him know that his invitation was full of innuendo.
Malfoy grumbled under his breath, but he managed to clamber into the kayak. "Now what?" he snapped, once Harry was settled in behind him.
"Now, we paddle out into the middle of the lake."
"Correction," said Malfoy, "you may paddle to the middle of the lake. I'm simply enduring my abduction."
Harry rolled his eyes, took up the oar, and began paddling them out across the water. Eventually, he asked, "Are you enjoying yourself?"
"I must admit, it is quite peaceful and relaxing out here," Malfoy replied. "Do you bring all of your victims out here?"
"Only the ones I wish to drown."
Malfoy shot Harry a sharp look over one shoulder. "Twat," he snorted, when he saw that Harry was laughing at him.
"Headmaster Twat," Harry corrected. He saw Malfoy's lips twitch before the professor turned around again.
When Harry reached a good spot, near the center of the lake and well away from any trees, he used a spell to keep the kayak in place. Harry then proceeded to enlarge the kayak. Malfoy tumbled neatly back into Harry's arms as the small craft transformed around him.
"Stop flailing," said Harry, wrapping his arms around his prize.
"I should have known you had ulterior motives, Headmaster Twat," snapped Malfoy.
Harry was about to reply, when the first of the fireworks lit up the night sky over the castle. Malfoy went still, and Harry heard him catch his breath in wonder. He nuzzled into Malfoy's silky hair and murmured, "See? I told you it would be brilliant out here."
"Hm, I concede that you may have a point, Headmaster Twat."
Harry poked Malfoy in the ribs. "That's enough snark, Professor Toss-Pot." His remark was met with another snort of laughter.
More fireworks lit up the sky, and Harry and Malfoy lapsed into a comfortable silence. Harry enjoyed the intimate moment. It seemed all he and Malfoy ever did was argue, bicker, or shag, and it was refreshing to simply lie back in the enlarged kayak and watch the spectacle in the sky.
There would be time later, when the show ended and darkness closed in, to christen the kayak.
