Summary: There's a war going on, and every stolen moment counts.

Tonks wasn't really listening to Arthur. Instead, her eyes watched Ginny as the girl picked listlessly at her food. Being cooped up at home, under the concerned watch of her parents, was no life for a young girl. Ginny should be at Hogwarts, studying and enjoying the company of her friends. However, these were not ordinary times. There was a war being waged, and the Weasleys had chosen to keep their only daughter safe at home.

Ginny pushed her plate away and excused herself. Tonks saw the worry in Molly's gaze as she watched her daughter exit the kitchen. Molly started to rise, but Tonks stayed her with a hand on her arm.

"I'll talk to her," said Tonks.

Molly hesitated a moment, but then she nodded her acceptance.

Tonks stood and wandered into the living room, just in time to see Ginny slip out through the front door. She quickened her pace and opened the door, stepping outside as Ginny turned the corner and headed for her father's workshop behind the Burrow. Tonks followed slowly, wanting to give the girl a moment to herself.

By the time Tonks entered the dim interior of the shed, she could hear the soft sniffles that indicated Ginny was crying. Tonks approached her slowly. When Ginny saw her, she scrubbed at her eyes and tried to compose herself.

"Go ahead and have a cry," said Tonks. "It will do you some good."

"I shouldn't be crying at all," muttered Ginny. "Many people are in worse situations than I am."

"Who's to say they aren't crying, too?" Tonks asked lightly.

Ginny smiled a little. "I've never seen you cry," she said.

"Don't let this tough pink hair fool you," teased Tonks. "I've shed my fair share of tears. You have more to cry for than I do, though."

"What do you mean?"

"Look at you," said Tonks. "You're young and pretty. You should be at school, sneaking snogs in the corridor, and just being a girl. Instead, you're at home, wondering where you brother and your friends are, and whether you'll be able to make up your studies and just have a normal life."

Ginny's shoulders hunched. "If you came to cheer me up, you're not doing a very good job of it."

Tonks sat down beside her on a bench. "The point I was trying to make is, it's okay to cry, yeah?" She reached out and brushed a lock of Ginny's hair back. Tonks realized she was stroking the girl's hair between her fingers. It was bright and silky, and it smelled of spring flowers.

Ginny sniffled again and leaned her head against Tonks' shoulder. Tonks felt her heart race, and she was chagrined. She shouldn't have such a reaction to Ginny, but there was a war going on out there, and who knew when a moment's pleasure might be one's last? She placed a finger under Ginny's chin and tipped her head up.

Tonks leaned forward, giving Ginny ample opportunity to pull away. Instead, the girl's eyes darkened, and her lips parted on a tremulous sigh. Tonks closed the distance between them and pressed her mouth to Ginny's. She tasted fresh and sweet, and Tonks had to remind herself to keep her kiss light and searching, rather than claiming Ginny's lips with the force of a woman's pent-up passion.

Ginny moaned and sagged against her, and Tonks' gave into the urge to deepen the kiss. She grew bolder, palming Ginny's small, pert breast and kneading the tender flesh. Ginny moaned again and tried to scoot closer.

This was wrong, it was so wrong, but Tonks was going to seize a moment's joy in the midst of war. She needed it, and so did Ginny. Tonks leaned into Ginny and pressed her back upon the bench.
