Summary: Draco pays a visit to Harry's cottage.
Draco Apparated to the bottom of the lane that led to Harry Potter's cottage. It was a beautiful Spring day. The sun was shining, and the flowering bushes in front of the cottage were in full bloom. A black cat was sunning itself on the window ledge, and it barely cracked an eye open as Draco approached the front door.
Draco knocked twice and stood back, awaiting admittance. The door opened a moment later, treating Draco to a view of Harry's surprised face.
"Malfoy!" Harry cried. He swiped ineffectually at a streak of flour on his cheek. "What a pleasant surprise. Do come in." Harry stepped aside, gesturing for Draco to enter.
Draco paused inside the door to allow his eyes to adjust to the interior. What he saw pleased him. Harry's home was small but cozy, and it smelled of baking.
"Would you care for some pancakes?" Harry asked. "I was just making myself a late breakfast."
"I've already eaten, but tea would not go amiss," Draco replied.
"Of course," said Harry. "Come on into the kitchen."
Draco was soon settled at the table with a cup of tea, while Harry sat across from him with a plate of steaming pancakes. Harry was a bit of alright these days, and Draco allowed himself a small fantasy as he took a bracing sip of Earl Grey.
"Did you come here to get lucky?"
The tea went down wrong, and Draco coughed and sputtered until he was able to croak, "Sorry?"
Harry handed him a serviette. "I assumed you've come to collect your mum's cat, Lucky," he said. "I was able to heal his paw with no complications, and he can go home any time."
Draco knew Harry was an animal Healer, but he'd had no idea that his mum had entrusted her cat to him. "I'll be happy to take Lucky off of your hands, Potter," Draco said, "but that's not the reason I came to see you today."
"Oh?"
Draco reached into his pocket and withdrew a tiny, porcelain figurine. He flicked his wand at it, restoring the item to its original size.
"What a lovely horse statue," said Harry.
"It's a unicorn," sighed Draco. "It belongs to Pansy's daughter, Peony. I accidentally broke the horn off of it, and Peony howled at the top of her lungs until I promised to bring it to you to be fixed."
"I'm a vet, Malfoy, not a...well, I was about to say not a potter, but...yeah. Heh heh."
In spite of the dire circumstances, Draco couldn't help but chuckle at Harry's pun. "Be that as it may, Potter, Peony knows you're the best person to fix an injured animal, and nothing would do but to bring her poor unicorn to you." Draco removed the truncated horn from his other pocket and set it on the table next to the unicorn figurine.
Harry drew his wand, flicked it at the unicorn, and magically repaired it. "I dare say you could have done just as well."
"I dare say I could have done better," Draco countered. "However, I want to be truthful when I tell Peony that the great Harry Potter himself fixed her unicorn."
Draco finished his tea, collected the unicorn and stood up. "Thank you, Potter. It's been a pleasure."
"Wait, Malfoy," said Harry. He pushed his chair back and rose to his feet. "There's the matter of my fee to discuss."
Draco raised an eyebrow. "You plan to charge me for doing a good deed?"
"Have dinner with me," Harry said quickly.
"Dinner?"
"Yeah, dinner...say, eight o'clock tonight?" Harry urged. His eyes brightened, and he shot Draco a cheeky grin. "If you agree, you may get lucky."
