Summary: Decorating is more challenging when you have pets.
Draco arranged the beautiful, potted poinsettias on the hearth and stepped back. He shook his head and rearranged the plants. The leaves of one poinsettia began to rustle, and a gray and white face appeared above the plant.
"No, no, Ivy," Draco scolded, shooing the cat away from the poinsettia. He shifted the pot to the left slightly. Draco nodded in satisfaction. The plants were a gift from Neville, and they added to the festive holiday decorations in the house.
Draco heard the front door slam shut, followed by Harry's voice in the entry. Next, he heard claws scrabbling across the floor an instant before Holly, their dog, bounded into the room. Her madly waving tail battered one of the poinsettias and caused it to list dangerously to the side.
Harry stepped around the corner in time to rescue the plant with a quick, wandless spell. "Disaster averted," he announced cheerfully.
"We'll need a repelling charm to keep Holly and Ivy out of the plants," sighed Draco. "Poinsettias can be toxic to pets."
Harry looked from his husband to the poinsettias and finally to the grinning dog and the cunning cat. He glanced up, rubbed his chin and said, "Why don't we just set the plants on the mantel?"
"What a brilliant idea," said Draco. "I'm glad I thought of it."
