Summary: Harry and Draco get schooled.
"What were we thinking?" moaned Draco. His eyes were fixed on the scene in front of him, a look of mild horror on his face.
"We owed Ginny and Karin a night out," said Harry. "We thought we could handle this. After all, how much trouble can they get into?" he finished in a sing-song voice.
The real question was, what hadn't Nicholas and Patrick gotten into. Harry and Draco agreed to watch the twins while Ginny and Karin enjoyed a well-deserved night on the town. Between them, they could have handled the boys, but there was also Evan to look after. The twins had scattered toys all across the parlor, and they squabbled constantly. Each time one of the toddlers picked up a toy, the other wanted it, and a tug-of-war would result. The winner crowed in delight, while the loser burst into frustrated tears. As for little Evan, he tried to sneak things into his mouth each time he thought his fathers weren't looking.
"Thank Merlin for Carina," Draco said.
Their daughter was doing a wonderful job of playing with the twins, fetching toys for them, acting as referee when they tussled, and snatching things away from Evan. However, even Carina in her mother hen mode was getting overwhelmed.
"Ricky, no!" Carina scolded, plucking a block from Patrick before he could whack his brother over the head with it. Patrick sat down hard on his bum and howled in protest. Nicholas threw a block, barely missing Carina. Evan continued trying to crawl into the fray, and he squawked in outrage each time Draco or Harry rescued him before he fell victim to his dastardly half-brothers.
Draco was slumped on the sofa, too exhausted to do more than flick his wand at odd times to prevent a calamity. "I don't know how Mrs Weasley did it," he mumbled. He reckoned he would have gone mad.
"I suspect she drank heavily," drawled Harry.
Draco snorted with sudden laughter, startling the toddlers and the baby. "Harry! I can't believe you said that."
Harry grinned. "All I know is, this mob is making me want to drink."
"I'll get you something to drink, Daddy."
"I'll get myself a drink later, Carina," said Harry. "Thank you." He looked at his youngest daughter fondly. She was such a sweet child. At the same age, Lily had been inclined to make messes, whereas Carina was more likely to clean things up. Harry decided that Carina took after him, while Lily certainly favored Draco. He turned his head to share this revelation with Draco, when disaster struck.
Carina was sitting beside Evan and shaking a toy for him, while Patrick and Nicholas played with their blocks. Evan giggled at his sister, and Patrick chucked a block at him. Draco lifted his wand in response, but his reaction was too slow.
Harry's stomach sank as he watched the block sail towards Evan's head.
Carina held up her hand, and the block dropped harmlessly to the floor in front of the baby. She glowered at her younger brother. "No, no, Ricky," Carina said in a firm voice. "That was naughty."
