dove_drabbles Prompt #12 - Put your feet up and unwind
hd_fluff Prompt #96 - crop circles
Summary: Harry and Draco are dispatched to Wiltshire to investigate the recent appearance of crop circles.

"Crop circles?" scoffed Harry. He closed the file in disgust. Apparently, it had been too much to hope that he and his partner could get an exciting case for once.

"Wipe that sneer off of your face, Potter," snapped Shacklebolt. "This is a very serious issue. The Ministry has reason to believe these crop circles are an elaborate hoax perpetrated by some magical delinquents. As such, it's an egregious breach of the International Statute of Secrecy."

"The crop circles have been appearing in Wiltshire," Draco commented as he dutifully flipped through the information in the case file.

"Exactly," said Shacklebolt. "That is why we're assigning you and Potter to the case. Your familiarity with the area will be a valuable asset, Malfoy."

Harry slumped in his seat, suitably chastised. Of course, it made perfect sense now. He should have read through the file before getting into a strop over their assignment.

"It's early yet," said Shacklebolt, "but I want you two to get going now so that you can scout out the area before dark."

Harry deferred to Draco, allowing his partner to take the lead as they flew over the Wiltshire countryside on their brooms. They had made several passes over the existing crop circles, using strong Disillusionment charms to conceal themselves from the Muggles on the ground below them. After that, they checked out the surrounding fields in an effort to pinpoint where the malefactors might strike next.

Draco motioned to Harry, and the two of them banked their brooms and left the area. Draco led the way to a familiar mansion and touched down on the ground. Harry landed beside his partner and frowned at him.

"I have a good idea which field they'll target tonight," said Draco. "We may as well take it easy until it's time to pull surveillance duty."

While Harry wasn't keen on spending any time in Draco's ancestral home, he was keen on spending time with Draco. Perhaps his partner would agree to a relaxing shag. Harry nodded his acquiescence, and they entered the Manor.

Draco led the way to a cozy parlor. "Have a seat, Potter," he invited. "You may as well put your feet up and unwind. We're in for a cold and sleepless night."

Harry sat at one end of a comfortable sofa and settled back with a sigh. When Draco sat at the other end, Harry went on full alert. He'd been lusting after his partner for months now. It seemed to be a mutual attraction, and Harry wondered if he could seize this opportunity to finally resolve all of the sexual tension between them.

Harry's eyes fixed on Draco's mouth.

Draco's pupils expanded, and he licked his lips.

Harry scooted closer.

"Draco, darling, how nice of you to visit!"

Harry scrambled back to his own end of the sofa when Narcissa Malfoy swept into the parlor.

"Mr Potter," Narcissa said in belated greeting.

Harry's hackles rose at her cool tone. "That's Auror Potter, Mrs Malfoy," he corrected her.

"Of course, Auror Potter," she said. "And, you may call me Lady Malfoy."

A reluctant smile tugged at Harry's lips. Touchè, he thought. Harry backed off. He knew enough to stay in Lady Malfoy's good graces if he ever wanted to get into her son's pants.

"Darling, what brings you here?" asked Narcissa.

Draco had retreated to the opposite end of the sofa. "Potter and I have been sent to Wiltshire to investigate the recent appearance of various crop circles," he said.

Narcissa's hand rose to her throat. "Is it dangerous?" she gasped.

"No, mum," Draco chuckled. "We suspect the circles were created by some bored hooligans. It shouldn't be too difficult for Potter and I to apprehend them."

~*~

"It wouldn't be difficult to apprehend them, if only the bloody little wankers would show up," growled Harry. He and Draco had been hiding at the edge of this wheat field since dusk, and Harry was cold and stiff and randy.

"They aren't exactly following a schedule, Potter."

Harry had no clever retort, and he subsided with a grumble. He cast another Warming charm and tried to get comfortable. Magic skittered across Harry's skin, and he perked up.

"Did you feel that?" Draco whispered.

"Yeah," said Harry. "Someone just cast Repello Muggletum. This is it!" Harry gripped his wand and motioned for Draco to head in one direction, while he went in the other. They would close in on their quarry from two different directions. Harry paused to cast an Anti-Disapparition jinx to prevent any escape. He followed it up with various Disilluionment and stealth charms, the better to sneak up on his prey. Harry moved along his chosen course, closing in. He heard whispered voices and snickers. The little delinquents had no idea they were in the Aurors' sights.

Harry peered above the wheat. He saw two youngsters waving their wands around and causing the wheat to flatten in a discernable pattern. Harry did his best imitation of an owl hoot. An answering hoot sounded from the other side of the field, indicating Draco was in position. Harry stood up and bellowed, "Incarcerous!"

One of the youngsters yelped as he was caught in Harry's spell. The other boy was simultaneously trapped by Draco's spell.

Harry scanned the area to be sure there was no one else lurking in the wheat field. When he determined it was just the four of them there, he sauntered forward, tapping his wand against his opposite hand.

"Don't hurt us!" squeaked one of the boys. He looked to be about fourteen.

Harry glared at him. "I'm Auror Potter-"

"The Harry Potter?!"

"...and this is my partner, Auror Malfoy," said Harry. "You two lads are in trouble."

"I told you we were going to get in trouble!" hissed the other boy. "Dad is going to kill us!"

"Who is your father?" Harry demanded.

"Marcus Flint," Draco said, looking closely at the boys. "Unless I miss my guess?"

"He'll sh-show you!" the first boy cried, clinging to false bravado.

"How many years in Azkaban do you reckon they'll be sentenced to for breaking the International Statute of Secrecy?" Harry mused aloud.

"Oh, at least five years, I'm sure," Draco nodded.

"Azkaban?!" chirped the boys.

Harry stepped forward and closed his hand around the nearest boy's nape. "Let's take these two criminals in," he said.

~*~

"I'm pleasantly surprised," said Harry, striding down the corridor as Draco kept pace with him. "I anticipated Flint would protest his sons' innocence."

Draco chuckled. "I suspect Azkaban would be preferable to the punishment he intends for those two," he said.

Despite the lateness of the hour, Harry was reluctant to go home alone. "Would you like to grab a pint at the Leaky?" he asked quickly.

Draco pulled up short. "I'd love to, Harry," he said, "but I told Marcus I'd join him at the Three Broomsticks to reminisce. You, ah, you're welcome to come along."

Harry would rather eat dirt than participate in a Slytherin reunion. "Thanks, but I'll pass," he said. "You go and enjoy yourself."

...while I go home and come alone.
