blossomdreams.
Summary: Harry isn't skilled at flirting, but he'll try anything.
"Flirt with him?" Harry exclaimed. "You know I'm pants at flirting!"
"If you plan to ask Malfoy out, you'll have to engage in some flirting first," said Ginny. "It's a mandatory, pre-date ritual, Harry."
"I never flirted with you," grumbled Harry.
"That's why I married someone else," Ginny teased him. She laughed at Harry's disgruntled expression. "Flirting isn't difficult," she said. "Smile at him, compliment him on something he's wearing, and initiate casual contact."
"Right," Harry nodded. "I can do this."

Harry waited until he and Malfoy were the only two left in the break room before approaching his target. Smile, compliment, touch, he repeated to himself in a mantra.
When Malfoy glanced up at him, Harry smiled brightly. "Malfoy, that jumper looks smashing on you," he said. Harry reached out to brush Malfoy's sleeve with one fingertip. "Is it cashmere?"
"Potter, are you attempting to flirt with me?!"
Harry's smile turned into a grimace, and he snatched his hand back. "I'm not very good at it, am I?" he asked with a dispirited sigh.
"To what purpose were you flirting?" Malfoy asked, leaning back against the nearest chair.
"I wanted to ask you to dinner," said Harry.
"Just dinner, or dinner and a shag?"
"Er, well, dinner, but I wouldn't turn down a shag," Harry admitted.
Malfoy's lips quirked as if he fought back a smile. "I'm a bloke," he said. "Try the direct approach."
Harry nodded once and squared his shoulders. "Malfoy, would you go to dinner with me on Saturday night and to bed with me afterward?"
"Dinner, yes," said Malfoy. "As for afterward...let's just see how dinner goes first, shall we?"
