harrydracompreg Prompt #30 - false alarm labor
Summary: Draco wakes Harry up and announces he's having pains.

"Harry, wake up!"

"Lemme sleep, Hermione. I'll study later."

"Harry!"

A rough shake to his shoulder roused Harry from slumber, and he realized it was his husband who was trying to wake him. "What? What is it?" he slurred, wondering where his glasses were.

"I don't feel right," Draco whispered.

Harry was instantly alert. He bolted upright in bed. "What's wrong?" he asked. "Are you in any pain?"

"My stomach hurts," said Draco.

Harry fumbled for the nightstand, knocking his glasses off of it as he attempted to turn on the lamp. He finally succeeded, blinking in the sudden brightness. Harry couldn't quite focus on his husband's face, but Draco's voice sounded scared.

"It's too early for labor pains," said Harry. "Right?"

Draco nodded. "I can't be in labor," he said, wincing as another pain hit.

Harry wasn't so sure, but he didn't want to frighten Draco any further. "Let's go visit St Mungo's, just to be safe," he said. Harry clambered out of bed and threw on the clothes he'd worn the day before. There was a needless delay as Draco waffled about what to wear, and Harry had to squelch the urge to yell at his husband. Damn it, Draco and the baby could be in danger!

Eventually, Harry managed to get Draco dressed and into the Floo. "St Mungo's!" he called, tossing down a pinch of powder. Upon arrival, Harry bustled Draco to the nearest admissions station.

"My husband is pregnant and suffering stomach pains," blurted Harry. "It's too soon for the baby to be born."

The Healer on duty flicked his wand, and a wheelchair floated over to them. Draco was seated in it and bundled in a blanket and fussed over by both Harry and the Healer. Once he was situated, Draco was wheeled down a corridor and around a corner to an exam room. He clung to Harry's hand the entire time, face white with fear.

In moments, a medi-witch joined them in the room. She glanced briefly at Draco's chart. "How are you feeling, Mr Potter?" she asked.

"I'll feel better when I know that Draco is alright," Harry babbled.

The woman leveled a stern look on him, and Harry realized she had been addressing Draco. The medi-witch turned to Draco with a softer expression. "Mr Potter?" she prompted.

"My stomach hurts," said Draco.

"Let's have a look, shall we?" said the medi-witch. She waved her wand over Draco's rounded stomach. Her brow furrowed with concentration.

"Is Draco alright?! Is the baby alright?!"

"Your husband and your baby are both fine, Mr Potter," the medi-witch replied. "It appears you have some indigestion, Mr Potter," she added, looking at Draco. "What have you been eating?"

"What hasn't he been eating?" Harry snorted. He yelped in pain when Draco zapped him with a wandless stinging hex.

"Mr Potter!" scolded the medi-witch.

"Sorry," Harry and Draco muttered simultaneously.

"I was speaking to you, Mr Potter," the medi-witch said, glaring at Harry.

Draco went from chastised to smug in an instant.

"Cravings during pregnancy are no laughing matter," the medi-witch continued.

"Yes, ma'am," Harry responded dutifully.

"Now then," the medi-witch said, returning her attention to Draco. "I'll prescribe you a mild potion to take, which will make you feel better. You may wish to avoid greasy foods for awhile-"

"No more fish and chips?!" cried Draco.

"...and stick to eating healthier foods," finished the medi-witch. "It will be better for you and the baby." She exited the room to fetch the potion, leaving Harry and Draco alone.

"I feel so ridiculous," Draco sighed.

"Don't be," said Harry. He leaned over and kissed his husband's forehead. "I'm just relieved that you and the baby are okay."

Draco smiled up at him. "Harry, about that stinging hex...you totally deserved it."
