Harry had been assigned to surveillance duty, and he was allowed his choice of partner. He would have sworn he wasn't into S & M, but in a decidedly sadistic move, he chose Draco Malfoy. It would do the poncy blond git some good to suffer through a stake out. Never mind the fact that Harry was likely to suffer more, as he'd have to put up with the subsequent bitching of his new partner.
They were huddled together beneath some bushes, keeping tabs on a nearby cottage. It had been raining steadily, and Harry was wet and irritable. Compounding his misery was Malfoy's endless capacity to complain. Harry yawned and checked his watch. It was nearly 2am. His eyes grew heavy. He hadn't been sleeping well lately, which was to be expected after his rather bitter break up with his most recent boyfriend. He should have known he and Liam weren't right for one another. Liam had always resented the hours Harry put in as an Auror.
Harry blinked sleepily a few more times before his mind gave up the fight, and he dozed off...
...passionate kisses in the rain, moving to the bedroom. A struggle for control, leading to hot sex. Falling asleep with another body, and waking to the same. Another intense fuck, followed by regrets and recriminations. Frustrating encounters, leading to nothing but more frustration. And through it all, soft blond hair and sullen gray eyes...
A sudden, sharp elbow to the ribs jolted Harry awake. His eyes snapped open to meet the hostile glare of his partner.
In a voice dripping with sarcasm, Malfoy snapped, "Are we having fun yet?"

Author's note: All good things must come to an end. I know many of you have been enjoying Surveillance, but I haven't been able to give it the attention it deserves. I've taken on too many other challenges, as well as becoming co-moderator of two LiveJournal communities, and the added pressure of trying to meet the demands of this series has become too much. As a result, I'm afraid there will be no further chapters to Surveillance. I hope you'll understand and forgive me.
I've gone back to where it began, on the original stake out, and made the subsequent installments all a drowsy dream of Harry's. How it plays out from here, I will leave up to each of you individually.
So many of you have friended me as a result of this series, and I sincerely appreciate it. I hope we will still be friends after this. In closing, I have one last thing to tell you, my loyal readers:
