Summary: Harry attends Malfoy's holiday party and attracts some enchanted mistletoe.
Harry clutched a Christmas cracker in both hands. The portkey invitations to Malfoy's annual holiday party had been delivered in the form of Christmas crackers this year. It was the only way to get past the wards at Malfoy Manor. Harry took a deep breath and pulled the cracker apart.
After the sensation of being hooked and pulled, Harry found himself at the end of a snowy lane. The lights of the Manor house beckoned from nearby. He cast a Warming Charm and strolled up the lane, admiring the scenery. This was the second year Harry had been invited to Malfoy's party. Now that they worked together, they had begun to get along like civilized adults. Unfortunately for Harry, not all of his thoughts towards Malfoy were civilized.
Harry climbed the steps to the front door and knocked. It was opened by a House-elf wearing an apron. She curtsied and ushered Harry inside. Immediately, a bundle of mistletoe buzzed over to Harry and floated above his head. He tried to bat it aside, but the mistletoe simply dodged him until he gave up. Harry followed the sounds of voices and music into the ballroom. He paused to take in the lavish decorations and the happy guests. Harry smiled and stepped into the room.
"Ah, Potter, there...you...are," said Malfoy, voice trailing off uncertainly as he beheld the mistletoe hanging over Harry's head.
Harry noted the direction of his host's gaze, and he offered an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, Malfoy," he said. "This mistletoe seems to be malfunctioning."
"To the contrary, Potter," said Pansy Parkinson, stepping up beside Malfoy and bestowing a smirk on both men. "That's enchanted mistletoe."
"Not now, Pansy," hissed Malfoy.
"Enchanted?" Harry asked at the same time.
Parkinson ignored Malfoy in favor of answering Harry. "You see, Draco here has refused for some time to tell me who the object of his fancy is, so I charmed the mistletoe to find out."
Malfoy's jaw tightened, and Harry's heart raced. Parkinson went on with her explanation. "I placed a spell on that particular bundle of mistletoe so that it would hover over the person whom Draco desires." She looked at Malfoy and smirked. "You're welcome, darling. Ta!" Parkinson breezed away, laughter floating behind her.
"I apologize, Potter," said Malfoy. "Had I known that meddlesome witch was up to such trickery, I would have tried to spare you the embarrassment."
"I'm not embarrassed," said Harry. "I'm...interested."
Malfoy blinked at him in surprise. "You are?"
Harry nodded. "Now, what can we do to get rid of this?" he asked, pointing at the mistletoe over his head.
"I reckon there's only one thing we can do," said Malfoy. He stepped closer to Harry and lowered his head, pressing a kiss to Harry's oh-so-willing lips. Harry returned the pressure eagerly, curling the fingers of one hand around Malfoy's upper arm.
The mistletoe above him exploded in a shower of bright sparks, drawing the eye of everyone in the ballroom.
Harry and Malfoy broke their kiss and exchanged nervous smiles as the other guests applauded and cheered. Harry chuckled at Malfoy's discomfiture and said, "Remind me to thank Parkinson for meddling."
