And the worst thing about it is that it's a 'guilty until proven innocent' mentality. If there is even a whiff of a hint that a website has copyrighted material the whole website can be shut down without warning and then an investigation is launched that could set the site back for days.

I agree. And, to shut down an entire website, affecting millions, over ONE violation? Inconceivable.

Congress stopped both SOPA and PIPA. A new bill will probably come along in a couple of months though so awareness isn't a bad thing.

You guys heard about Megaupload? The DOJ shut down yesterday. I'm still in shock over it. The goverment is cracking down hardcore, and as a downloader I'm pretty scared.

I've heard different opinions all around, and right now I'm feeling up the grey area. To be perfectly honest I'm not sure where I stand anymore right now. I'd rather have some people lose their jobs than have my internet censored, BUT I wouldn't want to be the cause for those innocent people who were not the reason that SOPA came into existence in the first place to lose their jobs.

It's complicated.

It IS complicated. The intent behind the bills was good, but it's wording was too vague and seemed to confer unlimited power to simply wipe out sites like MegaUpload without any warning whatsoever.
