It's a sad day for hockey.
I just learned that an airplane, carrying an entire elite team of hockey players, crashed in Russia today and killed all but two aboard. Oh my god, the names of those lost...these are guys I've watched on TV playing in the NHL, and I've seen some of them play live.
Pavol Demitra was a star in the NHL, and Ruslan Salei was known for being a hard-nosed player. Brad McCrimmon made his living in the league by being a tough guy, but as with most tough guys, he was a kind-hearted person.
This, on the heels of three off-season deaths of NHL players. It's a tragedy, not just to the world of hockey, but to the world in general. These were good people who had families and friends who loved them.
I hope a small portion of heaven is frozen over. They'll need a place to play.
