Summary: Draco isn't pleased with Harry's gift.

Harry shook his head and threw his hands up in the air. "You're the one who wanted to get a bloody peacock," he exclaimed.

Draco crossed his arms and glowered. "I wanted a proper white peacock," he said. "That thing is gaudy!" he declared, pointing at the brightly-colored peacock in question. The bird paid him no heed; it simply continued strutting back and forth and fanning its magnificent tail.

Standing off to the side and appearing decidedly uncomfortable were Hermione and Ron. Harry had enlisted their help to visit the Muggle estate that raised exotic birds so that he could purchase a peacock for Draco. After all, Draco was the one who had insisted that they would need a peacock if they were going to live on a country estate.

"You didn't specify you wanted a white peacock," Harry said through his clenched teeth. He knew his boyfriend was high-maintenance, but this was over the top!

"Far be it from me to assume you would know such things about me without my having to spell it out for you," sniffed Draco. His face took on a thoughtful expression. "Speaking of spells," he mused, drawing his wand. Draco flicked it at the peacock and turned it white.

Harry was aghast. He had deliberately selected a beautiful blue peacock simply because the white ones reminded him too much of Malfoy Manor. Since Draco hadn't expressed a preference, Harry hadn't thought his boyfriend would care. He hadn't realized how much he cared until the sight of the white peacock brought a lot of memories rushing back and a lot of anger to the fore. Harry snatched his own wand from its holster and returned the peacock to its former, brilliant glory.

"How dare you?!" hissed Draco.

"How dare you?!" snapped Harry. "I bought you that ruddy peacock as a gift, and you will accept it in the condition I offered it!"

"Its condition is unacceptable," sneered Draco. He flicked his wand once more, and Harry was confronted with a white peacock.

Harry immediately fired another spell at the bird, turning it colorful again and causing it to squawk in dismay at the rough treatment. "Leave it blue!" he demanded.

Draco's wand flared again. "White!"

"Blue!"
"White!"
"Blue!"
"Enough!"

Hermione's voice was loud enough to overwhelm Harry and Draco's argument. Her wand was in her hand, and her eyes were flashing with anger. The other three all shrank away from her in terror.

"The two of you are behaving like children," Hermione accused. "I'll settle this, once and for all." She twirled her wand and aimed another spell at the peacock. There was a flash of light, and when it faded, the peacock stood proudly in the midst of the humans. His tail was fanned out as he preened and strutted. Where before he had been either blue or white, he was now a spectacular mixture of both.

"He's beautiful!" gasped Draco.

"He's so unique," added Harry.

Draco turned to smile at his boyfriend. "He is uniquely ours," he said. He and Harry thanked Hermione at the same time.

She smiled and put her wand away, and Ron finally relaxed with a relieved sigh.

Harry wrapped an arm around his boyfriend, and Draco nestled against his side with a contented hum.

"Harry?"

"Yes, love?"

"We'll need some peahens, too," said Draco. "Should we get white or blue?"

Ron cringed and Disapparated before another argument could ensue.

"You'll get one of each," Hermione told them. Her foot tapped on the ground, and Draco and Harry both winced.

"One of each is a fabulous idea," Harry hastened to say, prompting Draco with a squeeze.

"An excellent suggestion, Granger," Draco said without hesitation. He didn't wish to prod her temper any more, either.

"That's settled, then," chirped Hermione. She drew her wand in preparation for Apparating away, ignoring the way Harry and Draco flinched and clung to one another. Hermione paused to glare at them. "If either of you aims another spell at that peacock, he won't be the only cock getting hexed."
