awdt prompt of Run away before you say something incriminating.
Summary: Draco's ogling is outed by his friend.

"Here comes Potter and his merry do-gooders," Pansy grumbled beneath her breath. "Let's cut down this corridor." They were on their way to the Great Hall, and taking that route would delay their arrival by a good five minutes.

"Pansy, we can't avoid them forever," chided Draco. Besides, Potter was looking fit and fine these days. Now that the Dark Lord had been vanquished, Potter no longer resembled a hare in the shadow of a hippogriff. The circles beneath his eyes were gone, his mouth was no longer turned down in a perpetual frown, and even his hair seemed to have relaxed.

Draco had been surprised Potter had bothered to return to make up his Seventh Year. Only a handful of students had, and they had quickly been dubbed Eighth Years by their younger peers. Draco hadn't been too keen on returning, but Pansy had pleaded with him, and Draco had ultimately given in to appease her.

"You simply want to ogle Potter's arse on the way," snipped Pansy. She was the only one who knew that Draco fancied the git.

"Yes, well, ogling is as close as I'm likely to get, so allow me to indulge myself," muttered Draco. By then, the Golden Trio was almost upon them, and it would be unseemly to abruptly turn away.

"Parkinson, Malfoy," Potter greeted politely. "You look lovely today." His eyes had been on Pansy when he began to say that last bit, but they strayed to Draco before he finished.

"Thank you," Pansy murmured.

Draco opened his mouth, and Pansy's hand clamped down on his arm. Hard.

"Run away before you say something incriminating," she hissed in Draco's ear.

Draco turned to gape at her in stunned surprise.

Potter's laughter broke the tense silence. "Can't say as that I've ever seen you gobsmacked before, Malfoy," he chuckled. "It's a good look on you."

Draco glared at him. "The absurdity of my expression is in direct proportion to the absurdity of Pansy's statement."

"Which was?" This came from Granger.

"Never you mind," Draco replied tartly.

At the same time, Pansy was saying, "I was cautioning Draco not to mention Potter's...assets."

Weasley snorted, Granger giggled, Draco groaned, and Potter's eyes narrowed in speculation.

"Have you been admiring my...assets, Malfoy?" he inquired. His green eyes sparkled with merriment.

Draco willed the floor to collapse beneath his feet. When nothing happened, he began to consider various spells he knew that might accomplish the same thing.

Pansy, the shrew, answered for Draco. "Yes, he has been admiring your assets for some time," she said. "Would you be so kind as to put me out of my misery by escorting him to the Great Hall for lunch?"

"That's a wonderful idea," gushed Granger. "Harry, you run along with Malfoy. Par, er, Pansy, I'd like to ask you about our latest Arithmancy assignment. You initiated some interesting discourse in class this morning, and-"

Draco didn't hear the rest of Granger's babbling. Potter had taken his arm and was leading him away. "You're touching me," Draco was compelled to point out.

"Does it bother you?" Potter asked, not releasing his gentle grip.

"No, I...no." Draco supposed he could pull his arm free, but it hardly seemed worthwhile. He and Potter were both on their way to the Great Hall, after all.

"Good," Potter smiled at him. "It's a start. Perhaps later you'll allow me to get my hands on your assets."
